Job summary

Story Decorating Group Ltd is seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join a growing team in Manchester. You will lead commercial management of painting and decorating projects, ensuring robust financial control and adherence to contract terms from award through final account.

You will collaborate with operations, clients, subcontractors and leadership to maximise profitability, strengthen relationships, and drive business growth on prestigious UK projects.

Qualifications

• Degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Construction Management or related field.
• Significant experience as a Quantity Surveyor in the construction sector.
• Strong understanding of commercial management, cost control, and contract administration.
• Experience preparing and negotiating valuations, variations, and final accounts.
• Excellent knowledge of construction contracts and commercial processes.
• Strong analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
• Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Attend estimating handover meetings and communicate commercial information.
• Review, interpret and manage contract documentation and obligations.
• Develop and manage project budgets, cost plans and commercial targets.
• Monitor costs and performance to ensure profitable delivery.
• Prepare, submit and negotiate interim valuations and final accounts.
• Price, manage and negotiate contract variations and additional works.
• Record and manage variation instructions.
• Undertake site visits to monitor progress and changes.
• Identify risks and opportunities and implement mitigations.
• Respond to pay-less notices and challenge reductions.
• Procure and manage subcontractor packages.
• Attend commercial reviews and project meetings.
• Maintain client relationships to support repeat business.
• Collaborate with finance to ensure timely certification and payment.
• Inform Commercial Director of performance, risks and cash flow.
• Support growth and development of Story Decorating Group.
