The successful candidate will play a key role in providing cost management and commercial advice throughout the project lifecycle, working closely with clients, project managers, design teams and other stakeholders. You will take responsibility for managing project finances, ensuring robust cost control and delivering commercially sound solutions across a range of complex schemes.

This role would suit an ambitious and client-focused Senior Quantity Surveyor with strong consultancy experience, excellent technical knowledge and a background in healthcare or public sector construction projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the delivery of cost management and quantity surveying services across a portfolio of healthcare and public sector projects.

  • Provide commercial and cost advice to clients from project inception through to completion.

  • Prepare cost plans, estimates, budgets and cost reports at various stages of the project lifecycle.

  • Manage project costs, cash flow forecasts, financial reporting and commercial risks.

  • Advise on procurement strategies, tender documentation, tender evaluation and contract award recommendations.

  • Administer and manage construction contracts, including relevant JCT and NEC forms.

  • Monitor project expenditure and identify potential cost pressures, risks and opportunities for value engineering.

  • Work closely with multidisciplinary project teams, including project managers, architects, engineers and other specialist consultants.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, contractors and wider project stakeholders.

  • Ensure projects are delivered in line with agreed budgets, programmes, quality standards and client requirements.

  • Support the management and development of junior team members, providing guidance, mentoring and technical support.

  • Contribute to business development activities, including identifying opportunities to develop existing client relationships and secure new work.

  • Support the continued growth and success of the Cost Management team.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Proven experience working as a Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor within a construction consultancy.

  • Experience delivering cost management services across healthcare, public sector or other complex construction projects.

  • Strong knowledge of cost planning, estimating, procurement, tendering and commercial management.

  • Experience managing project finances, cost reporting and financial risk throughout the project lifecycle.

  • A good understanding of construction contracts, including JCT and NEC.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build trusted client relationships.

  • The confidence to take ownership of projects and provide clear, commercially focused advice.

  • Experience working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.

  • The ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality work to deadlines.

  • A proactive approach to problem-solving, continuous improvement and professional development.

  • MRICS status or a clear commitment to achieving chartership.

Expectations at Senior Level

As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will be expected to take ownership of your project responsibilities, provide sound commercial advice and contribute to the effective delivery of the wider team.

You will demonstrate strong client-facing skills, support the development of colleagues and help maintain high standards of technical delivery. You will also be encouraged to contribute to business development, strengthen client relationships and identify opportunities for further work.

What Success Looks Like
  • Delivering accurate, reliable cost management advice across a range of projects.

  • Maintaining effective cost control and financial reporting throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Building strong, long-term relationships with clients and project stakeholders.

  • Supporting the successful delivery of healthcare and public sector construction schemes.

  • Contributing to the development of junior colleagues and the wider Cost Management team.

  • Helping to strengthen the consultancy's reputation and support its continued growth.

Development and Benefits

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to join an established consultancy environment, work on a varied portfolio of projects and further develop their technical and commercial expertise.
