Job description

Are you an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor ready to lead commercial delivery on a major infrastructure programme supporting the UK's clean energy future?

Do you want to secure your long-term career path within a collaborative framework that offers continuous project pipelines extending past 2030?

Are you looking for an agile commercial role that lets you anchor a critical East Midlands framework before seamlessly transitioning with your team to upcoming North East portfolios?

Then Laing O'Rourke is the company for you!

Join us in delivering the critical power infrastructure needed to support the UK's future energy demands. With a secure, multi-year program of work ahead across a multi-region framework, this opportunity offers unparalleled career stability and professional growth.

The Opportunity

Laing O'Rourke is recruiting a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our Great Grid Partnership team. This position will initially support our operations in the East Midlands, based primarily out of Chesterfield city centre before transitioning to the High Marnham project site.

Crucially, our project pipeline includes subsequent major framework schemes designated for the North East of England. This role offers long-term career continuity, allowing the successful candidate to anchor the East Midlands delivery phase and seamlessly transition with the core commercial team to our upcoming North East portfolio.

We have been appointed as a strategic construction partner for National Grid's Great Grid Partnership programme, forming part of a critical supply chain framework that will support major infrastructure delivery beyond 2030.

What will the Senior Quantity Surveyor role look like?
  • Managing all commercial and quantity surveying duties across allocated work packages.
  • Measuring, valuing, and agreeing on-site works.
  • Preparing and managing interim applications and payment certifications.
  • Drafting, managing, and closing out complex subcontracts.
  • Monitoring live subcontract packages, including commercial performance, change control, valuations, payments, and contractual obligations.
  • Delivering accurate monthly cost reporting and commercial forecasting.
  • Preparing, managing, and negotiating commercial claims and final accounts.
  • Identifying, pricing, and mitigating commercial risks while maximizing project opportunities.
  • Producing comprehensive contract reviews, Business Project Review (BPR) data, and management reports.
  • Supporting the establishment of project budgets from the contract award stage.
  • Cultivating strong collaborative relationships with clients, subcontractors, and key project stakeholders.
  • Mentoring, developing, and supporting junior members of the commercial team.
What skills & experience are we looking for?
  • Proven track record of managing live subcontract packages under NEC contract suites.
  • Degree in Quantity Surveying or a related commercial discipline; RICS membership is desirable but not essential.
  • Demonstrated experience working within the power, energy, or major infrastructure sectors.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management capabilities.
  • Ability to robustly manage commercial risk while driving project performance.
  • Flexibility to support our long-term regional delivery strategy as the framework transitions from the East Midlands to the North East.
