Job summary

STRABAG UK is seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our Build Division in the Weybridge area. You will manage commercial aspects from pre-construction through final account, ensuring value, quality and efficiency on a large scale high-rise project.

You will lead commercial teams, manage risk and cost, and drive financial success while collaborating with clients and supply chain partners on a dynamic urban development.

Qualifications

  • RICS/ICES registered and working toward Chartership.
  • Degree or HNC in a construction-related discipline.
  • Strong knowledge of JCT contracts and standard methods.

Responsibilities

  • Lead commercial management from pre-construction to final account.
  • Prepare valuations and payment applications with supporting docs.
  • Manage subcontractor and supplier accounts and changes.
  • Maintain risk/opportunity schedule and cost reporting.
  • Support project execution planning with commercial input.

Job description


  • STRABAG UK is seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our Build Division, supporting the successful delivery of a large scale, high rise build project in the Weybridge area. As part of one of Europe’s leading technology groups for construction services, you will play a key role in managing the commercial aspects of projects from pre-construction through to final account, ensuring value, quality, and efficiency at every stage.

  • Working closely with project teams, clients, and supply chain partners, you will provide strategic commercial leadership, manage risk and cost control, and help drive the financial success of projects ranging in scale and complexity. Requirements


  • Encourage and develop a culture of commercial awareness within the team.

  • Ensure the site team adheres to group procedures and governance.

  • Manage the successful onboarding of new junior staff members.

  • Manage the development of personal plans, establishment of objectives/targets for all direct reports.

  • Identify necessary and appropriate training needs for direct reports.

  • Development, motivation & performance management of junior staff and provide coaching and mentoring where appropriate.

  • Delegation of appropriate work to junior staff, whilst maintaining accountability.

  • Participate in the Project Kick Off meeting and input into and directly influence the production and maintenance of the Project Execution Plan.

  • Preparation of internal commercial reporting, influence and contribute to monthly projects reviews and any other reports which may be required.

  • Preparation of Valuations/Application for payment with full supporting documentation in accordance with the contract.

  • Preparation of Cost Reports to the Client with contractually compliant supporting documentation.

  • Preparation and management of subcontract and material procurement schedules.

  • Prepare and issue Sub-Contract and Consultant Appointments in line with the requirements of the programme and procurement schedule.

  • Liaise with the Design Manager and Project Manager in relation to design aspects of the project and provide advice regarding cost impacts and value engineering.

  • Administration of subcontractor/supplier accounts from the preparation of detailed requisitions, monitoring and authorisation of subcontract payments through to agreement of final accounts.

  • Undertake the contract administration, including change management, the issue of contractual notices and communication in accordance with the contract and maintain associated registers.

  • Identifying commercial risks, opportunities, value engineering and change.

  • Ensure the correct site records are maintained.

  • Implement a WBS structure to satisfy the Client & Contract requirements.

  • Ensure regular risk and opportunity workshops take place within the project team and influence and input into a real time Risk and Opportunity Schedule including specific mitigation strategies.

  • Preparation, negotiation and agreement of change events, extension of time claims, final accounts etc.

  • Measurement of quantities in accordance with the standard methods of measurement as required.

  • Ensure appropriate Client Management is initiated and maintained.

  • Identify and advise on insurance related issues, including the prompt notification of potential claims and ensuring all insurance related contractual requirements of the project are implemented and managed.

  • Maximising of cash position, including WIP control, cash flow production & improvement plans.

  • Ensure the out-turn cost and value on the project is monitored and managed in real time and ensure a detailed forecast is maintained and reported on a monthly basis.

  • Input into the production of the margin improvement plan on the project and manage and maintain in real time.

  • Ensure the timely procurement of PCG, bonds and warranties as required by the contract.

  • Manage Sub-Contractor and Supplier disputes.

  • Input and assist in the management of Client disputes.

  • Assist in work winning duties as required, including technical writing for PQQ responses.

  • Undertake any other work as required of you by your line manager


Skills & Qualifications


  • Registered with RICS / ICES and working towards Chartership

  • Degree qualified or HNC equivalent

  • Sound knowledge of JCT contracts

  • Commercially astute. Excellent knowledge of Standard Forms of Contract and Standard Methods of Measurement.

  • Computer literate with strong skills in Microsoft Office Applications (Word/Excel/Outlook/PowerPoint)

  • Experience working with a Design and Build Building Contractor

  • Good communication skills including presentations and ability to negotiate and persuade others.

  • Programming techniques, project controls, risk analysis, contract admin, procurement, cost, claims.
