Job summary

We’re looking for an experienced and commercially astute Senior Quantity Surveyor with a proven track record of successfully managing complex construction projects from pre-construction through to final account. You'll be confident leading commercial activities, building strong relationships with clients and project teams, and providing expert contractual advice to support project success. The ideal candidate will be highly organised, proactive and capable of managing multiple priorities while driving commercial performance and mitigating risk. Strong leadership skills are essential, as you'll be responsible for mentoring and developing junior surveying team members. Above all, you'll be a collaborative team player with excellent communication skills and a commitment to delivering high-quality outcomes in a fast-paced construction environment.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead and manage the commercial delivery of projects from pre-construction through to completion, ensuring successful cost, contract and programme performance.
  • Take ownership of projects and work packages of varying size, complexity and value, providing commercial leadership throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Build strong relationships with clients, site teams, designers and subcontractors to ensure effective collaboration and successful project delivery.
  • Attend, lead and contribute to internal and client meetings, acting as a key commercial point of contact.
  • Provide contractual guidance and commercial support to operational teams, helping to manage risk and maximise project performance.
  • Oversee commercial administration, maintaining accurate project records and ensuring documentation is managed in line with company procedures.
  • Manage, mentor and support Quantity Surveyors at all levels, including Trainee and Project Quantity Surveyors, to encourage development and high performance.
  • Continuously develop your professional knowledge and skills while ensuring compliance with company policies, procedures, data protection and information security requirements.
  • Take a proactive and flexible approach to supporting the wider business, contributing to evolving project and organisational needs.
What You’ll Bring
  • Strong estimating experience in the construction industry, ideally across multiple sectors, including midrise residential apartments
  • Excellent understanding of subcontract procurement, tender processes, and estimating software (e.g. Conquest, Bluebeam, Cost X etc).
  • Able to confidently analyse drawings, specs, contracts and financial data.
  • Comfortable managing and prioritising multiple tenders.
  • Experience with JCT contracts.
  • A commercial mindset and solid negotiating skills.
  • Capable of presenting to clients and senior leadership teams.
  • Strong understanding of submission requirements, with the ability to plan and execute a logical sequence of actions to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to assemble estimates using estimating software and/or manual methods, supported by appropriate IT skills.
  • Sound construction knowledge, with the ability to research, assess, and appraise the viability of alternative solutions.
  • Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills, both internally and externally.
  • Demonstrates an appropriate level of presentation skills.
  • Ability to motivate, influence, and work effectively with others.
