An opportunity has arisen with our client for a Senior Quantity Surveyor, taking responsibility for commercial performance across medium to large projects.
In this role, you will contribute to a major infrastructure project to create a 2GW high-voltage direct electricity connection between Scotland and North East England. Main foundation piling at the North East site is complete, with engineering and supervision work now underway. Community and environmental initiatives are also ongoing, and the wider infrastructure programme is targeting completion around 2029.
You will implement sound commercial practices throughout the project lifecycle, reviewing contract terms, identifying risks and opportunities, and working with project teams to ensure contractual obligations are understood and met. You will manage the agreement of changes while keeping safety visible in commercial decisions and project activities.
Day to day, you will monitor and forecast costs, revenue and cash flow, manage payment applications and receipts, and produce accurate reporting on expenditure, projections and margins. You will also support subcontractor procurement and management, maintaining the records needed to substantiate commercial positions.
Building constructive relationships with project teams, customers and other stakeholders will be central to the role. You will negotiate final accounts, facilitate sign-off and support dispute resolution where required. Where needed, you will also manage and coach Quantity Surveyors or Assistant Quantity Surveyors.
You will bring experience managing the commercial aspects of medium to large MEP or construction projects, supported by sound contractual understanding, financial judgement and confident negotiation skills.
English and Maths GCSEs, or equivalent, are required, alongside a relevant BSc/degree or equivalent, or a willingness to work towards one. Clear communication, accurate reporting and the ability to balance commercial priorities with positive stakeholder relationships will help you succeed.
