Job summary

Equal Resourcing is seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor for its established civil engineering and groundworks team in Greater Manchester. The role focuses on pre-construction input, commercial planning, and end-to-end cost management across residential and private developer schemes.

The ideal candidate has a strong QS background, civils/groundworks experience, and an HNC in Construction or Civil Engineering, with solid client and site-team communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Involves pre-construction input, project meetings, and commercial planning.
• Manage external applications for payment and client invoicing.
• Reconcile payments and chase outstanding monies.
• Price and manage variations, design changes and additional works.
• Monitor cost vs budget and flag risks/opportunities early.
• Produce quarterly internal valuations and Cost to Complete forecasts.
• Track spend across labour, plant, materials and subcontractors.
• Work with Contracts Managers and Site Managers for commercial accuracy.
• Take ownership of final accounts from start to finish.
• Report into senior management with reliable commercial data.
• Support improvements in internal costing and reporting processes.

A long-established and steadily growing civil engineering and groundworks contractor is seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join its commercial team in Greater Manchester.

The business delivers groundworks, foundations, drainage, infrastructure and external works across a mix of residential and private developer schemes.

They’re investing in modern surveying and reporting tools, and there’s a clear progression path for someone who wants to grow rather than just maintain.

• Getting involved early - pre-construction input, project meetings, commercial planning
• Managing external applications for payment and client invoicing
• Reconciling payments and chasing outstanding monies
• Pricing and managing variations, design changes and additional works
• Monitoring cost vs budget and flagging risks/opportunities early
• Producing quarterly internal valuations and Cost to Complete forecasts
• Tracking spend across labour, plant, materials and subcontractors
• Working closely with Contracts Managers and Site Managers to ensure commercial accuracy
• Taking ownership of final accounts from start to finish
• Reporting into senior management with reliable commercial data
• Supporting improvements in internal costing and reporting processes

ABOUT YOU

• Strong QS background, ideally already operating at senior level
• Experience in civils, groundworks, infrastructure or residential development
• Minimum HNC in Construction or Civil Engineering
• Comfortable owning applications, valuations, variations and final accounts end to end
• Sharp commercial instincts and excellent numerical accuracy
• Confident communicator - comfortable with clients and site teams
• Organised, deadline-driven, calm under pressure
• Experience with construction costing software (any platform) is a bonus

SALARY AND BENEFITS

• Salary up to £80k depending on experience
