Job summary

Tradeline Recruitment currently seeks a Senior Quantity Surveyor to take commercial responsibility on Central London projects. You will manage budgets, procure subcontractors, and support client relationships to protect margins and optimise profitability.

The role requires strong leadership of junior staff, rigorous commercial reporting, and effective risk and change management across the full project lifecycle in a fast-paced construction environment.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor / Senior Quantity Surveyor within construction.
  • Strong commercial management experience across the full project lifecycle.
  • Good knowledge of construction practices, contracts and commercial processes.
  • Strong negotiation, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
  • BSc, HND or equivalent in Quantity Surveying or a commercially related discipline.
  • RICS or CIOB accreditation preferred.
  • Experience mentoring or managing junior commercial staff would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Take full commercial responsibility for projects, maximising profitability and protecting margins.

  • Identify and manage commercial risks, opportunities and disputes.
  • Procure and manage subcontractors, contractors, materials and plant.

  • Lead, manage and mentor Quantity Surveyors and Trainee Quantity Surveyors.
  • Produce regular financial reports, forecasts and project performance updates.
  • Support tenders, contracts, bonds and other commercial documentation.
  • Ensure projects achieve completion with all commercial paperwork in place.
  • Promote collaborative working between commercial and project teams.

Senior Quantity Surveyor - Central London

Location: Central London Salary: Competitive, depending on experience


An established construction business is looking to bring on an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to take commercial responsibility across projects in Central London. The role will involve managing project finances, procurement and client relationships, as well as supporting junior commercial staff.


Key Responsibilities


  • Take full commercial responsibility for projects, maximising profitability and protecting margins.

  • Manage project budgets, forecasts, costs and financial reporting.

  • Measure and value works for client applications and supplier payments.

  • Identify and manage commercial risks, opportunities and disputes.

  • Procure and manage subcontractors, contractors, materials and plant.

  • Negotiate and agree variations with clients and the supply chain.

  • Manage subcontractor accounts, valuations, payments, retentions and final accounts.

  • Build strong commercial relationships with clients and supply chain partners.

  • Lead, manage and mentor Quantity Surveyors and Trainee Quantity Surveyors.

  • Produce regular financial reports, forecasts and project performance updates.

  • Support tenders, contracts, bonds and other commercial documentation.

  • Ensure projects achieve completion with all commercial paperwork in place.

  • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures and industry best practice.

  • Promote collaborative working between commercial and project teams.


Requirements


  • Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor / Senior Quantity Surveyor within construction.

  • Strong commercial management experience across the full project lifecycle.
