Job description

We’re working with a well-established construction consultancy delivering complex infrastructure programmes across the UK. With sustained investment in transport, energy and utilities, the demand for commercially astute professionals who can bring clarity to cost continues to grow.

About the Role

This role sits within a growing infrastructure team, supporting the delivery of high-value, often high-profile projects. As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you’ll take a lead role in managing project costs across the full lifecycle, from early-stage estimates through to final account. You’ll work closely with clients, contractors and internal teams to ensure commercial performance is understood, controlled and, where possible, improved. You’ll also be expected to contribute to the development of less experienced team members and help drive consistency in commercial best practice across projects.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain strong, professional relationships with clients and project stakeholders
  • Lead on cost planning, estimating and budgeting activities
  • Deliver accurate cost reporting, forecasting and cash flow management
  • Administer contracts (typically NEC-based) in line with project objectives
  • Manage change control processes, including assessment and agreement of variations
  • Identify and manage commercial risks and opportunities
  • Support procurement strategies and tender evaluations
  • Drive value engineering and cost optimisation initiatives
  • Ensure robust governance and reporting processes are adhered to
  • Lead on negotiation and agreement of final accounts
  • Provide commercial input into programme and performance discussions
  • Mentor and support junior team members where appropriate

Qualifications

  • Strong experience in cost management within infrastructure projects (e.g. rail, highways, utilities, energy)
  • Experience administering NEC contracts (NEC3/NEC4 preferred)
  • Confident in cost reporting, forecasting and commercial management
  • Solid understanding of procurement, estimating and valuation processes
  • Comfortable managing stakeholders and navigating complex project environments
  • Able to provide clear, practical commercial advice
  • Experience mentoring or supporting junior team members
  • Degree qualified in a relevant discipline (or equivalent experience)
  • Ideally MRICS or working towards chartership

Why apply?

This role offers exposure to complex infrastructure projects, with the opportunity to play a more active role in shaping commercial outcomes and adding real value to project delivery.

  • Opportunity to work on high-value, nationally significant programmes
  • A role that goes beyond reporting, with genuine input into commercial decision-making
  • Clear progression routes in a market where experienced professionals remain in high demand
  • Flexible working arrangements
  • A collaborative environment focused on delivery and continuous improvement
