Job summary

SJP recruitment services in London is seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor for a well-established construction contractor. The role focuses on commercial management from pre-construction through to final account, ensuring profitability and contract compliance.

You will manage budgets, cost reports, subcontract packages, and variations, review JCT/NEC contracts, and mentor junior members of the commercial team while liaising with clients and stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying or related construction discipline.
  • Experience as a Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor in construction.
  • Strong knowledge of JCT and NEC contracts.
  • Experience managing projects through full lifecycle.
  • Excellent commercial awareness and negotiation skills.
  • Strong financial reporting and cost management.
  • Ability to build relationships with clients and stakeholders.
  • Proactive approach and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Managing project costs, budgets and forecasts.
  • Producing monthly cost reports and cost/value reconciliations.
  • Preparing and negotiating subcontract packages.
  • Managing subcontractor accounts, valuations and payments.

  • Identifying and mitigating commercial risks.

Our client is a well-established and highly respected construction contractor delivering a diverse portfolio of projects in education, commercial, healthcare, super-prime residential and cladding remediation. Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of secured work, they are seeking experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor's to join their expanding commercial team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially astute professional to take ownership of projects from pre-construction through to final account while playing a key role in maximising profitability and managing commercial risk.

The Role

As Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for the commercial management of one or more construction projects, ensuring financial performance, contractual compliance, and successful project delivery.

Key responsibilities include:

About You

To be considered for this role, you will have:

  • A degree in Quantity Surveying or a related construction discipline.
  • Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor within the construction industry.
  • Strong knowledge of JCT and/or NEC contracts.
  • Experience managing projects through the full project lifecycle.
  • Excellent commercial awareness and negotiation skills.
  • Strong financial reporting and cost management capabilities.
  • The ability to build effective relationships with clients and project stakeholders.
  • A proactive approach and strong problem-solving skills.
Desirable
  • MRICS qualified or working towards Chartership.
  • Experience working for a Main Contractor.
  • Experience across multiple construction sectors.
