Job summary

Matchtech Group is seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor for a major infrastructure project in Somerset. You will manage day-to-day commercial activities, handle NEC contracts, CVRs, and cost reporting, and protect project margins.

The role offers potential progression to Commercial Manager for the right candidate and is open to Senior QS or Commercial Manager level individuals with a main contracting background. Site-based three days per week.

Qualifications

• 8+ years' commercial experience in construction, infra, or utilities.
• Experience with NEC contracts, ideally NEC4 Option A.
• Experience managing CVRs, cost reporting and commercial controls.
• Proven ability to manage day-to-day commercial activities on major projects.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Experience with main/principal contractor environments.

Responsibilities

Senior Quantity Surveyor

Are you a commercially focused Senior Quantity Surveyor with a strong main contracting background and extensive NEC contract experience?

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a major infrastructure project in Somerset, taking responsibility for the day-to‑day commercial management, with the potential for growth as additional project scope is secured.

Reporting to the Senior Commercial Manager, you'll play a pivotal role in driving commercial performance, protecting project margins, and ensuring robust contract management throughout the project lifecycle. This position also offers a genuine pathway to progress into a Commercial Manager role for the right individual.

We are open to speaking with both Senior Quantity Surveyors and Commercial Managers for this position. For candidates already operating at Commercial Manager level, the role and package will reflect experience.

The Role

• Managing the day-to‑day commercial activities of a major infrastructure project.
• Preparation and submission of applications for payment.
• Producing and managing cash flow forecasts.
• Ownership of Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs) and commercial reporting.
• Managing subcontractor accounts and commercial performance.
• Administration of NEC contracts, including management of Early Warnings and Compensation Events.
• Supporting project profitability through effective cost control and contract management.
• Monitoring project margins and reporting on commercial performance.
• Building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Supporting the wider commercial team and driving best practice across the project.

Essential Requirements

• A proven background working for a main/principal contractor
• Previous experience operating at Senior Quantity Surveyor level or above.
• A strong understanding of profit & loss, project margins and commercial performance.
• Significant NEC contract experience, ideally NEC4 Option A.
• Proven contract management and subcontractor management experience.
• Strong experience producing and managing Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs), cost reporting and commercial controls.
• The ability to confidently manage day-to‑day commercial activities on major infrastructure projects.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
• A minimum of 8 years' commercial experience within the construction, infrastructure, utilities or power sectors.
• Availability to be site‑based in Somerset three days per week.

Desirable Requirements

• Degree qualification in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.
• Experience working on major infrastructure projects valued in excess of £20m.
• Experience operating at, or progressing towards, Commercial Manager level.
