About The Role
We are seeking to strengthen our Commercial team with a Senior Quantity Surveyor based in Cambridge & Peterborough, with hybrid working options available.
You will report directly to the MQS and will be responsible for:
- Providing commercial challenge and recommendations as part of an integrated delivery team to achieve outperformance.
- Managing the commercial and cost aspects of various work packages within the project.
- Serving as the commercial conscience of the team, supporting delivery management and on-site teams.
- Ensuring operations control costs, maximize value, minimize liabilities, maintain quality and safety standards, and ensure compliance with governance procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintaining accurate, robust cost plans aligned with scope.
- Reporting within the commercial calendar and adhering to work and cost breakdown structures.
- Assisting estimators with robust estimates, risk allowances, and data transfer to procurement systems.
- Managing subcontracts in accordance with contract requirements, including proper documentation and communication.
- Collaborating with the Procurement team on strategy development and monitoring.
- Engaging with the site team regularly to manage allowances, outputs, and communicate changes.
- Providing live forecasts, monitoring actual costs against baselines, and reporting variances.
- Ensuring efficiencies are reflected in reporting tools and providing variance analysis and resolutions.
- Keeping records of deliveries and ensuring contractual understanding across the team.
- Assisting with risk mitigation plans and administering contracts properly.
- Reporting commercial issues, managing disputes, and maintaining proper records for audits.
- Leading, guiding, and mentoring team members, fostering a collaborative culture.
- Managing change administration with supply chain partners and clients.
- Performing other duties as assigned by the Managing Quantity Surveyor.
About You
Essential
- Excellent presentation, influencing, and negotiation skills across diverse stakeholders.
- Proven ability to build partnerships and manage stakeholder relationships.
- Strong interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence.
- Experience in delivering large projects within scope, time, and budget constraints.
- Experience managing costs within a complex Cost Breakdown Structure and familiarity with NEC contracts.
- Understanding of water-water processes.
- Valid Driving License and relevant CSCS Card.
Desirable
- Degree in engineering, management, or related discipline.
- Chartered surveyor or working towards chartered status.
