We are looking to strengthen our Commercial team with a Senior Quantity Surveyor based at Cambridge & Peterborough, with hybrid working available.
You will report directly to the MQS and be accountable for:
- Providing commercial challenge and recommending actions to achieve out-performance as part of an integrated delivery team.
- Managing the commercial and cost aspects of various work packages within the project.
- Supporting the delivery management and on-site teams with commercial advice, acting as the commercial conscience of the team.
- Ensuring operations control costs, maximize value, minimize liabilities, and maintain quality and safety standards, while ensuring compliance with governance procedures.
Key responsibilities include:
- Maintaining accurate and aligned cost plans with project scope.
- Reporting within deadlines as per the commercial calendar and work structure.
- Assisting with robust estimates, risk and opportunity analysis, and data transfer to procurement systems.
- Managing subcontracts in accordance with contract requirements and maintaining proper documentation.
- Collaborating with procurement to develop and monitor strategies.
- Regularly visiting site to ensure awareness of allowances, outputs, and to provide challenge and communication on change control.
- Providing live, accurate forecasting and monitoring actual costs against baseline and progress.
- Reporting variances and resolving issues to ensure financial control.
- Recording deliveries and ensuring understanding of contractual arrangements among team members.
- Assisting with risk mitigation plans and administering contractual obligations.
- Keeping the Managing Quantity Surveyor informed of relevant commercial issues.
- Identifying and reporting any disputed or disallowed costs.
- Leading and guiding team members, influencing stakeholders, and developing a collaborative team culture.
- Mentoring staff and supporting performance management.
- Administering changes with supply chain partners and clients, maintaining records for audits.
- Performing other duties as assigned by the Managing Quantity Surveyor.
Essential skills and experience include:
- Strong presentation, negotiation, and influencing skills across diverse teams and stakeholders.
- Ability to foster a collaborative team culture and work within a multidisciplinary environment.
- Proven experience in delivering large projects within scope, budget, and quality parameters.
- Experience managing costs through complex Cost Breakdown Structures and NEC contracts.
- Understanding of water-water processes.
- Driving license and relevant CSCS card.
Desirable qualifications:
- Degree or equivalent in engineering, management, or cost discipline.
- Chartered surveyor or working towards chartered status.
