Job summary

Fortem are seeking a motivated Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our Projects division in Bristol on a permanent, full-time basis. You will lead the commercial management for a £16m retrofit refurbishment contract across four high-rise buildings, including scaffolding and cladding works.

You will be responsible for contract entitlement, cash flow, budgeting, and governance, with a focus on delivering value and strong stakeholder management.

Qualifications

  • Good level of education to include 5 GCSEs at grade C or above, A levels.
  • An industry related qualification.
  • We would consider an established QS ready for the next step.
  • Experience of working on Social Housing Refurbishment contracts.
  • Previous experience within a similar role.
  • Excellent IT knowledge including a high level of Excel skills (incl. V-Lookup, Pivot tables and formula development).
  • Contractual awareness.
  • Negotiating and communication skills.
  • Experience of Management Accounts.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel if required by the business.
  • Knowledge of Contract Law.
  • Detailed knowledge of relevant contract conditions (NEC 4).
  • Retrofit refurbishment experience would be advantageous.
  • Professional Accountancy Qualifications or working towards Facilities Management/Accountancy or Construction related qualification.
  • Demonstrable experience in significant & complex contract multi-disciplinary contracts.
  • Experience in Dispute Resolution.
  • Experience within the construction or social housing refurbishment sector however we welcome applications from other sectors.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the company secures its full entitlement within the contract.
  • Be responsible for the commercial aspects of this Retrofit social housing refurbishment contract.
  • Promote company values and procedures internally and externally.
  • Ensure project teams meet or exceed budget targets.
  • Act as a subject matter expert on contractual arrangements.
  • Maximise cash flow through invoicing and resolving client queries.
  • Monitor job costs and revenue to support data-driven decisions.
  • Manage disputes and identify potential issues early.
  • Ensure accurate cash flow forecasts and revenue profiles.
  • Direct responsibility for financial reporting and cost control governance.
  • Producing subcontractor orders, supplier onboarding, and team development.
  • This is a small but exceptional and friendly team of dedicated and experienced commercial individuals.
  • Some flexible working available (3 days per week onsite).

Job description

As part of our continued growth, we are looking for a motivated and professional Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our Projects division. This is a permanent, full time position and is based in Bristol. The Senior QS will have a key role in our commercial management function, providing proactive and timely support.

The Customer

This will be working within our recently secured contract in partnership with Bristol City Council, delivering a £16m Retrofit refurbishment project across 4 high rise buildings which will include scaffolding mass climbers, cladding renewals and associated works.

Duties and Responsibilities
