Job summary

Gibson Recruitment Limited is seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor for a permanent role based in Bellshill. You will join a leading UK Tier 1 contractor on prestigious projects across public, private, and regulated sectors.

The role requires a Degree in Quantity Surveying, extensive construction experience, and strong knowledge of JCT/NEC contracts. You will manage budgets, sub-contractor procurement, and CVR reporting, while mentoring junior surveyors.

Qualifications

• Degree in Quantity Surveying is required.
• Proven experience in construction with strong commercial awareness.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
• Ability to perform take-offs and price variations unaided.
• Familiarity with JCT and NEC contract forms.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, negotiate, and analyse costs for budgets.
• Ensure sub-contractors are pre-qualified per management systems.
• Procure sub-contractors and prepare their orders.
• Assess and certify interim payments; issue payer/pay-less notices.
• Advise on legal/contractual issues and commercial risks.
• Produce monthly Cost Value Reconciliation reports.
• Maintain effective working relationships with teams.
• Plan and evaluate work by teams and individuals.
• Assist in managing the Commercial team and mentor QS staff.
• Coordinate interaction between commercial and site operations.

Job Description

A major UK Tier 1 building contractor who are known as a real market leader in their field, delivering new build construction projects in the public, private, and regulated sectors.

We are currently recruiting a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join the experienced commercial team on a permanent basis.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a real household name in the industry to work on prestigious contracts.

Responsibilities

• Preparing, negotiating, and analysing costs for budgets.
• Ensure sub-contractors are pre-qualified in accordance with management systems.
• Procurement of Sub-Contractors and preparation of Sub-Contractor order documentation.
• Assessing and certification of sub-contractor interim payments and ensuring required Payer / Pay-less notices as issued.
• Advising on a range of legal and contractual issues and identification and management of commercial risks.
• Production and presentation of monthly Cost Value Reconciliation on projects.
• Establish, maintain, and enhance effective working relationships.
• Plan, allocate and evaluate work carried out by teams, individuals, and self.
• Assist in managing the Commercial team and supervise and mentor Quantity Surveyors.
• Ensure effective interaction between the commercial and operational site teams.

Requirements

• Degree in Quantity Surveying.
• Extensive experience in Construction
• Proactive approach, take Initiative and willingness to accept responsibility.
• Good knowledge of construction contracts particularly the JCT & NEC Forms of Contract
• Sound Commercial Awareness
• Ability to complete take offs and price variations unaided.
