Job summary

Tetra Tech’s Belfast-based Cost Consultancy team is seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor to drive cost management on high-value developments, typically over £200m. You’ll work across Education, Healthcare and Infrastructure, guiding projects from planning through delivery and collaborating with senior leaders and clients.

The role emphasizes robust cost control, risk management, and value optimisation, with mentoring of junior colleagues and active client relationship building.

Qualifications

• Degree-qualified in Quantity Surveying with MRICS/RICS membership preferred.
• Experience in pre- and post-contract cost management across major projects.
• Sector experience in Education or Healthcare is advantageous.

Join Tetra Tech’s Cost Consultancy team and play a leading role in delivering high-value, technically complex developments with a strong focus on innovation.

Purpose & Scope of the Role

As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will be instrumental in delivering high-quality cost consultancy across major projects, many exceeding £200m in value. Working across sectors such as Education, Healthcare and Infrastructure, you will provide expert cost advice. Based in Belfast, you will contribute across the full project lifecycle, from early-stage planning through to successful completion, working alongside experienced professionals and senior leadership.

Your Impact in this Position

You will lead and support the commercial delivery of complex projects, ensuring robust cost control, risk management and value optimisation. By collaborating closely with clients, stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams, you will help shape practical, innovative solutions. You will also play a key role in mentoring junior colleagues and strengthening client relationships through professional, service-focused delivery.

• Cost Management & Commercial Insight: Deliver accurate cost planning, budgeting and forecasting across project stages. Manage change, risk and procurement with confidence and precision
• Contractual Expertise: Apply strong knowledge of NEC, JCT and bespoke D&B contracts. Ensure compliance and effective contract administration throughout delivery
• Client & Stakeholder Engagement: Build trusted relationships through clear communication and technical credibility. Represent projects professionally, promoting confidence at all levels
• Collaboration & Leadership: Work effectively within multidisciplinary and virtual teams. Support, guide and motivate junior team members
• Problem Solving & Technical Delivery: Provide practical solutions to complex commercial challenges. Use strong analytical, negotiation and IT skills to drive outcomes

Skills, Qualifications & Experience

Degree-qualified in Quantity Surveying (or similar), you will ideally be working towards or hold RICS membership. You bring experience across pre- and post-contract cost management, with strong commercial awareness and communication skills. Sector experience in Education or Healthcare is beneficial but not essential.

This role is based in Belfast with a hybrid working model. You can expect a mix of office, home and project-based work, typically 2–3 days in the office or site. Flexible working arrangements are supported to promote balance and productivity.
