Job summary

United Gas & Power, a Yorkshire‑based business energy supplier, is hiring a QA Engineer for its IT team at the Guiseley/Leeds head office. The role focuses on test strategy, data validation, API validation, and ensuring accuracy, security, and reliability of energy‑sector digital solutions.

You will collaborate with engineers, data engineers, and product owners to test end‑to‑end workflows, verify transformations, and enforce quality gates.

Qualifications

• 8+ years hands‑on QA experience testing complex systems, APIs, databases and integrations.
• Experience in energy sector testing or utilities domain is advantageous.
• Strong SQL skills for data validation and backend verification.
• Proven ability to design test plans, cases, and risk-based testing approaches.

Responsibilities

• Define test strategy, scope, environments, and risk-based priorities for data and analytics projects.
• Provide accurate test estimates and resource planning for sprints and releases.
• Validate data accuracy, transformations, and business rules across systems.
• Conduct end-to-end and integration testing across ETL, databases, reporting tools, and downstream apps.
• Log, track, and drive defects to closure with evidence; enforce quality gates.
• Enhance automation for regression, API, and data validation; evaluate new testing tools.
• Collaborate with BAs, architects, SMEs, developers, data engineers, and product owners.
• Create test artefacts, reports, and risk communications; mentor junior testers; contribute to QA standards.
