Job description

Waracle is looking for a Senior QA Engineer to join our world-class digital technology consultancy. We are home to a diverse, smart, curious, and ambitious community of specialists in technology-driven transformation. We partner with ambitious clients to help them solve their biggest business and customer challenges. Together, we innovate and create intelligent digital products and services. We thrive on complex challenges and deliver business-critical IT transformation projects, moving seamlessly from strategy, design, and delivery to operations.

This role is available on Fixed-Term Contract for 7 months initially to help drive quality and scalability in our latest projects. If you love collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams, designing smart automation strategies, and mentoring others in a supportive, growth-oriented environment, we would love to hear from you!

We champion modern, balanced working and offer a hybrid setup, asking you to collaborate in person 2 days a week from either our Glasgow or Dundee offices.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

As a Senior QA Engineer, you will play a vital role in defining our quality approaches, building scalable automation frameworks, and championing best practices across the development lifecycle. This role isn't just about finding bugs; it’s about collaborating with cross-functional teams, driving continuous innovation, and acting as a trusted mentor to help others grow. If you thrive in a supportive, collaborative environment where your voice is heard and your technical leadership can make a tangible impact, we would love to meet you.

  • Strategy & Collaboration: Shaping testing approaches for complex features, embedding risk analysis into the workflow, and guiding exploratory testing efforts.
  • Framework Architecture: Building and evolving modular, reusable, and scalable automation components, and seamlessly integrating quality checks into CI/CD pipelines.
  • NFR Integration: Designing and automating tests for performance, security, and accessibility to ensure quality is built-in from the very start.
  • Mentorship & Growth: Supporting and mentoring other QAs to help them grow their skills, and providing encouraging, constructive feedback through peer code reviews.
  • Community & Inclusion: Leading QA knowledge-sharing sessions and owning community initiatives such as accessibility or regression standards.
What you'll bring:
  • QA Expertise: Comprehensive knowledge of QA best practices, methodologies (SDLC, Agile), and a strategic mindset for ensuring deep test coverage.
  • Automation Mastery: Advanced automation skills using Playwright, with the confidence to build, extend, and maintain scalable testing frameworks while focusing on high code quality.
  • Programming Skills: Practical, hands-on experience using C# or Typescript to interact with and test web applications.
  • Technical Mastery: Well-rounded experience across functional, non-functional, white-box, and security testing fundamentals.
  • Problem-Solving Mindset: Proactive defect management, strong triage leadership skills, and the ability to anticipate risks before they arise.
  • Communication & Domain Adaptability: Excellent collaboration skills, with an ability to explain complex technical ideas simply to both teams and clients, alongside a natural curiosity to learn new project domains quickly.
The Recruitment Process

The recruitment process you can expect for this role is an initial call with your dedicated Talent Acquisition Partner who will chat with you about Waracle, what you are looking for in a new position, the salary for the role, notice period and benefits (the important stuff!).

After that, you'll be invited to a two-stage interview process where you have an opportunity to find out more about the role and showcase your skills and experience. Your Talent Acquisition Partner will guide you through the whole process to your first day with us.

We believe in supporting our team, inside and outside of work. Here's a glimpse of what you can expect:

  • Rest & Recharge: You'll receive 27 days of annual leave, plus 8 bank holidays, totaling 35 days of holiday to unwind and pursue your passions.
  • Financial Future & Security: Plan for retirement with our company-matched 5% pension contribution. For added peace of mind, we also offer a Death in Service benefit, providing 2 x your annual salary for your loved ones.
  • Health & Wellness: Our Medicash Health Cash Plans help cover everyday healthcare costs, complemented by an Employee Assistance Programme for confidential support, and Group Sickness Cover for peace of mind.
  • Flexible Working: We champion hybrid working, providing a home office setup budget to ensure you're comfortable and productive wherever you are.
  • Learning & Development: Invest in yourself with access to Udemy Business and a dedicated learning and development budget for continuous growth.
  • Lifestyle Perks: Make the most of our Cycle to Work Scheme, and enjoy exclusive gym and retail discounts.
  • Family First: Our enhanced parental leave policies include support for fertility journeys, recognising diverse family needs.
  • Community & Connection: We foster a vibrant culture with regular fun meet-ups and lunch on us in the office once a month. You'll also have the opportunity to make a local impact through Spirit of Waracle, our initiative for getting involved in charitable causes locally, building strong team bonds and giving back.

We are an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from all suitably qualified persons regardless of their race, gender, disability, religion/belief, sexual orientation or age.
