Job summary

Biometric Talent in the UK is seeking a Senior Software Engineer with strong Python and infrastructure experience to own backend services powering a smart meter platform. You will ingest MQTT traffic from thousands of devices and build APIs and internal services to keep data reliable and scalable.

This role emphasises production ownership, deploying services with Docker and Kubernetes, and supporting migration of workloads from AWS to DigitalOcean.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of production Python experience.
• Ownership of backend services from design to production.
• Backend API development using FastAPI/Flask or similar.
• Experience with asynchronous processing and data modelling.
• Strong Linux, Docker and Kubernetes skills.
• Experience deploying and troubleshooting containerised apps in production.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain production-grade Python services for thousands of devices.
• Develop data ingestion services handling MQTT traffic.
• Build APIs and internal backend services for reliable data access.
• Design resilient services for asynchronous processing and failure scenarios.
• Own services lifecycle from development to production support.
• Deploy and manage services using Docker and Kubernetes.
• Migrate services/infrastructure from AWS to DigitalOcean Kubernetes.
• Monitor health and performance, investigate issues, ensure observability.
