Job summary

Alexander Charles is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to design and build a scalable Python backend on AWS, with well‑designed APIs and distributed systems. You will own backend architecture and deliver robust, well‑tested services aligning with governance‑led product thinking.

You will work hands‑on with Terraform, Kubernetes and EKS, and leverage AI coding agents within automated loops to drive the SDLC while maintaining security and reliability at scale.

Qualifications

• 5+ years shipping production backend software as a senior engineer.
• Strong Python backend development experience in scalable, production systems (distributed systems & APIs).
• Solid AWS experience (5+ years) with Terraform, Kubernetes and EKS.
• Deep understanding of API design, data modelling, performance, reliability & observability.
• Hands-on experience with Claude Code or similar AI coding agents in automated SDLC loops.
• Comfort owning backend architecture decisions.
• Experience with LLM-based systems or AI/ML product development.
• Thrives in early-stage, fast-changing environments and collaborative work.
• Excellent collaboration with product & engineering teams.
• Master’s degree in STEM.
• Nice to have: governance, compliance, security, or regulated industries.
• Nice to have: startup/pre-Series A experience.

Responsibilities

• Architect and build scalable, secure Python backend on AWS and APIs.
• Own backend services end-to-end: data modelling, performance, reliability, observability, security.
• Collaborate with cloud infra using Terraform, Kubernetes and EKS to deploy services.
• Leverage AI-assisted development workflows (Claude Code) in SDLC workflows.
• Set and uphold backend engineering standards: CI/CD, testing & release practices.
• Partner with frontend engineers to design clean API contracts.
• Contribute to technical direction and roadmap discussions.
• Use AI tools in planning, coding, testing and review to accelerate delivery.
• Seek continual improvements in processes and tooling.
