Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a senior designer/engineer to lead prototyping and research across customer engagements in London. You will translate opportunities into testable prototypes, map service-blueprints, and collaborate with engineers, researchers and customers to validate ideas and drive iterative improvements.

Required: 5+ years in creative technology, strong English, and deep craft in at least one area. Strong presentation and co-design facilitation skills are essential for executive workshops

Qualifications

• Bachelor's level degree in a creative/technical discipline or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years in creative technology, design technology, interaction design or software prototyping.
• 2+ years building prototypes for customers or stakeholders under time pressure.
• Portfolio showing prototypes built personally and the changes made.
• Business-level fluency in English.
• Depth in at least one craft: HCI, interaction or product design, industrial design, software development or creative technology.
• Ability to build directly in at least one medium and collaborate across code, agents, data, devices and fabrication.
• Working grasp of generative and agentic systems.
• Experience learning with people and turning evidence into concrete changes.
• Ability to work with customers, designers, researchers, engineers and industry experts.
• Comfort presenting, demonstrating and running sessions with customer teams.
• Preferred: Master's degree in related field.
• Preferred: TypeScript or JavaScript, React, Figma, Git, API integration, LLM or agent frameworks, and one cloud platform.
• Preferred: Microcontrollers, edge devices, sensors, firmware, wireless connectivity, 3D printing or CNC fabrication, spatial audio or ambient feedback.
• Preferred: Unity or Unreal, WebGL or Three.js, AR/VR headsets, Blender or Rhino, After Effects.
• Preferred: Experience in an innovation lab, product studio, design consultancy, creative agency or research group.
• Willingness to travel to customer sites and Lab locations as engagements require.

Responsibilities

• Turn customer opportunities into users, workflows, decisions, constraints and hypotheses.
• Map service blueprints and human-agent-system models.
• Prototype at the lowest useful fidelity using sketches, simulations, coded interfaces, live agents, connected devices or fabricated forms.
• Integrate data, APIs, models and tools to create credible end-to-end prototype behaviour.
• Run research and co-design with customers, users and subject-matter experts.
• Define evidence and diagnose breakdowns across interaction, workflow, policy, data or model.
• Present and demonstrate work to customer teams.
• Lead research, co-design and testing sessions.
• Bring tangible work into executive workshops.
• Act as day-to-day customer contact on smaller engagements.
• Separate reusable interaction logic, components, agent states, prompts, policies and evaluation assets from customer-specific examples.
• Hand pilot and delivery teams flows, code, assets, dependencies, risks and test evidence.
• Experiment with sensors, microcontrollers, edge devices, fabrication and ambient feedback.
• Own day‑to‑day design, technical exploration, build, testing, evidence, handoff and associated customer sessions.
• Ensure prototype quality, credibility and learning value.
• Collaborate with Engineering and Lab Operations while owning prototype behaviour and intended human‑AI experience.
