Together we are Trusted to Serve Scotland.

It’s not every job where you make a difference for the people of Scotland. But it’s what’s behind every job here. Scottish Water works to keep Scotland’s water flowing, from reservoir to tap – and from sewer to treatment plant.

As a key group within the business, Scottish Water Horizons delivers Projects installing Renewable Technologies on to SW Assets to help provide Cheaper, Greener Energy Solutions and help SW towards its 2040 Net Zero Goals and The Scottish Government Regulatory Targets. We deliver PV & Hydro systems, and are currently working to re-establish a Wind Programme too. Do your bit by joining us as a Senior Project Manager within Horizons managing the Net Zero Renewables Delivery Team.

What You’ll Do

As a Senior Project Manager within our Delivery Team, you’ll keep Capital Investment Renewables projects Pan-Scotland running smoothly – from the plans that meet our goals, to running workshops that help us pinpoint our ‘what next’.

You’ll be leading the charge in achieving Scottish Water's 2040 Net Zero Targets along with building those crucial relationships with key internal and external players.

Your Team’s Projects could include mounting PV Panels on the Roof of a Water Treatment Works Building, installing a Hydro Turbine to capture Compensation Flow from a SW Reservoir, or building Wind Turbines on spare ground within a Waste Water Treatment Works. You’ll constantly be looking for innovative ways to meet the challenges of climate change, and for improvements to the delivery of our service. You’ll handle project reviews and reporting, so we can learn what works best and keep on delivering more for Scotland. It’s all in a day’s work.

You’ll drive your team to ensure projects move forward through governance approvals, complete with all the necessary papers and supporting information. You’ll review monthly reports with the team and partners, including out-turn costs, milestone completion dates and timely resource demands.

You'll drive and manage the processes that makes projects come to life, from planning to construction to commissioning. We're talking meeting deadlines and commercial criteria, quality standards and industry best practices.

You’ll make sure we're following all the rules – governance, health and safety, quality, and environmental regulations, and that we are fully compliant when it comes to CDM & NIS Regulations.

You’ll set the tone for your team, building a strong culture that chimes with the aims of Scottish Water and delivers on project targets. You’ll also act as a role model and mentor to help team members grow their skills with development plans and coaching and it goes without saying that Scottish Water Horizons is a key promoter in the development of Graduates & Modern Apprentices.

What You’ll Need

A hands-on Senior Project Manager, you’ll have a record of successful Capital Investment programme delivery. You’ll know your way around renewables technologies, construction health & safety, CDM Regulations, customer engagement, NEC4 Contracts and financial management. Efficiently steering a programme of projects through their Implementation is your success factor, so ability to manage individuals and teams during Construction Phase is a core activity.

You’ll need to work closely with other groups within SW, local authorities, DNOs, and your colleagues in SWH, so you’ll need to be someone who’s good at networking and building strong working relationships. Making friends and influencing people is just what you do. There’s no formal qualification for that.

You are results driven with a focus on budget and quality. Change doesn't scare you – in fact, you're the one suggesting new processes and procedures for better results, always driving for continuous improvements.

We have a Hybrid set-up so your office base can be agreed depending on your Home Location, and you'll need your PPE on standby for regular site visits. A driving licence is non-negotiable.

What You’ll Get

While the work we do is important, we know it’s not the only thing that matters. That’s why we make sure you have everything you need to find a good work-life balance.

This is a full time (35 hours per week) role, Monday to Friday. You’ll get plenty of time to recharge with 38 days of holiday every year (including public holidays). And you can even buy five more if you need a little extra time. You can also take time off to volunteer in your community.

When it comes to major life events we have family-friendly policies around adoption, maternity, and parental leave. And for the everyday? We embrace flexible working. For your future, there’s our pension (the ‘know-what-you’ll-get-when-you-retire’ kind), and life assurance.

As for some nice extras? You can expect an annual company bonus. Not to mention access to SW Splash – handy rewards that can save you money on holidays, bills, and shopping.

The not-so-small print

This role will be a Grade 8. If you’re new to Scottish Water, you’ll join us on a starting salary of £48,900. Performance-driven pay progression would then allow you to move through the range to a maximum of £68,510.

If you’re interested in this role – or know someone else who might be - we’ll be accepting applications until midnight on Wednesday 14th May 2025. And we’re aiming to do interviews for this role on or around 21st May 2025.

Job offers at Scottish Water are conditional, and will be confirmed on completion of our pre-employment screening, e.g. referencing, criminal record checks, license checks, etc. Screening is conducted on our behalf by a third party, and must be completed before your start date. Don’t worry - we’ll only start these checks once you’ve accepted an offer.

A few final things worth knowing…

Research shows that some people avoid applying for jobs unless they can meet every single criteria. If you’re interested in this job, but don’t tick all the boxes, apply anyway! We hardly ever hire people who can do every part of a job from Day One. Everyone has a learning curve. So don’t rule yourself out!

Let us know if there are any changes we can make to our recruitment process to help you perform at your best. Lots of our people have disabilities or neurodiverse conditions (including some of our recruiters!). We're also aware that some people might be experiencing temporary challenges because of life events, like menopause. We’re very used to making adjustments, so please don’t be afraid to ask.

As part of our commitment to developing a flourishing Scotland, it’s important that all our employees are Scottish taxpayers. If you join us, your home address will need to be in Scotland. If you don’t already live here, you'll need to commit to moving here within your first three months.

Finally (finally!), candidates who haven’t submitted an application in the last 12 months will have their records removed from our recruitment database. You won’t need to do anything. Your data will be automatically deleted.
