The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to join our growing Flood Risk Management team, based in one of our offices in Birmingham, Nottingham, Cardiff or Bristol.

In this role, you’ll lead the delivery of a diverse portfolio of projects from inception through to completion, coordinating multidisciplinary teams and ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, commercially and to the highest technical standards. You’ll build strong relationships with clients, partners and stakeholders while managing project programmes, budgets, risks and commercial performance.

You’ll have the opportunity to work across a wide range of projects, including flood alleviation, strategic studies, business cases, asset management, river restoration, coastal resilience and climate adaptation. Candidates with experience in the UK water, energy, civil engineering or transport sectors, and an understanding of the full design and project lifecycle from feasibility through to delivery, will also be well suited to the role.

Beyond project delivery, you’ll play an important role in mentoring and developing junior colleagues, sharing knowledge, supporting business development and helping to drive best practice across the team. With a growing portfolio of major projects, the role also offers genuine opportunities for career progression, including the potential to move into commercial leadership roles on major projects and contribute to the continued growth of the business across the UK.

Is this role right for you?

We are seeking the below essential skills and knowledge:

  • Experience managing multidisciplinary engineering, environmental or infrastructure projects, ideally within flood risk management, water or civil engineering.
  • Strong project management skills, including managing scope, programme, budget, resources, risk and change.
  • Experience leading project teams, coordinating technical specialists and producing client deliverables such as reports, scopes and business cases.
  • Strong client and stakeholder management, communication and relationship‑building skills.
  • Commercial awareness, with experience monitoring project performance, forecasting and profitability.
  • Strong organisational, analytical and problem‑solving skills, with excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to mentor and develop junior team members, with a collaborative and professional approach.
  • Degree qualified in Engineering, Environmental Science or a related discipline, with chartership or progress towards chartership preferred.

We also appreciate the following skills:

  • Experience delivering projects for the Environment Agency, NRW or other Flood Risk Management Authorities.
  • Knowledge of FCERM appraisal, business case and funding processes.
  • Knowledge of NEC4 contracts.
  • Experience in flood and coastal risk management, river engineering, catchment management or asset management projects.
  • Experience supporting bid preparation and work winning activities.
  • Understanding of climate resilience, nature‑based solutions and sustainable drainage approaches.
  • Formal project management training or qualifications (e.g. PRINCE2, APM).
