How You'll Make a Difference

As a Senior Project Manager, you will take the lead in managing key projects for the property and business support service. Managing teams of construction consultants and contractors, you will be responsible for the successful delivery of major capital projects by providing project management services throughout the relevant RIBA stages.

Working with colleagues from across the authority and external partners and stakeholders, you will ensure the projects are delivered effectively and on schedule, achieve key objectives and provide value for money.

What You Will Be Doing
  1. Manage the successful delivery of specified capital projects, including procurement and management of contracts for contractors and consultants, ensuring works and services are tendered in accordance with financial regulations and standing orders.
  2. Prepare and update programmes, risk management registers, and overall project cost reports to ensure cost plans are prepared at appropriate gateways; oversee the legal transfer of assets and input to development agreements.
  3. Prepare tender reports and appraisals for director approval; implement a change management strategy to monitor and control time, cost, and quality; attend project and public engagement meetings.
  4. Develop innovative solutions to technical issues, ensuring appropriate solutions are proposed and successfully implemented; consult on issues with wider implications while adhering to service regulations and codes of practice.
  5. Provide technical advice, support, and training to colleagues; ensure performance objectives are achieved, teamwork is effective, and the team is technically capable.
What We Need From You
  1. Hold a construction-related degree or equivalent qualification and significant relevant experience in project management on large-scale capital projects.
  2. Proven experience in leading multiple major projects independently, delivering contracts, guidance, and developing design briefs.
  3. Experience in planning and progressing work activities within professional guidelines or organizational policy; in-depth knowledge of service-specific and professional issues.
  4. Knowledge and experience with performance management and project improvement tools; ability to work to strict deadlines managing demanding workloads.
  5. Excellent strategic awareness, experience working in a political environment, and effective communication and influence skills with clients, consultants, and contractors.

  • This is a hybrid role allowing remote or office work.
  • Interviews scheduled for 25th June 2025.
