Job description

About The Role

At National Grid, we're building the infrastructure needed for a cleaner, greener future.

About The Role

At National Grid, we're building the infrastructure needed for a cleaner, greener future.

Through our growing portfolio of interconnectors, National Grid Ventures is connecting the UK's energy system with neighbouring countries, enabling the efficient flow of clean electricity across borders and supporting the transition to net zero. Between 2020 and 2030, our interconnectors are expected to help Britain avoid around 100 million tonnes of carbon emissions.

Now we're developing the next generation of interconnector projects.

LionLink is a first-of-its-kind collaboration between National Grid and Dutch transmission operator TenneT. As an innovative offshore hybrid asset, LionLink will connect offshore wind generation with interconnector infrastructure, helping unlock renewable energy in the North Sea while reducing the amount of new infrastructure required onshore and offshore. Once operational, LionLink will have the capacity to deliver approximately 1.8GW of clean electricity, enough to power around 2.5 million homes.

We're looking for an experienced Senior Project Manager to play a critical role in delivering this pioneering project.

This role includes a job requirement car and there will be travel to our base office in Warwick as well as travel to our site in Suffolk.

What You’ll Do

As Senior Project Manager, you'll lead the converter station civil design and delivery programme for LionLink, overseeing key engineering, procurement and construction activities through the project lifecycle.

Working across a diverse and highly collaborative team, you'll manage the successful delivery of major infrastructure works while ensuring the highest standards of safety, quality, governance and project performance.

You'll:

  • Lead and inspire a team responsible for the safe delivery of major project activities to agreed scope, schedule and budget.
  • Oversee converter station civil design and construction delivery, including early engineering contracts and EPC activities.
  • Support the Development Consent Order (DCO) process and lead preparations for discharging consenting requirements to enable site establishment activities.
  • Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders, external partners and LionLink's joint venture partner, TenneT.
  • Drive project governance, risk management, financial forecasting and performance reporting across the programme.
  • Ensure innovative, efficient and cost-effective delivery solutions are developed and implemented.
  • Champion a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with National Grid's SHEQ standards.
  • Coordinate cross-functional inputs from engineering, land, legal, external affairs and consenting teams to achieve successful project outcomes.
  • Capture and share lessons learned to continuously improve project delivery across the wider portfolio.
What You’ll Need

We're looking for a proven project leader with experience delivering large-scale infrastructure or construction projects in a complex, highly regulated environment.

You’ll ideally have:

  • Significant project management experience within major infrastructure, energy or construction projects.
  • Experience managing multi-disciplinary teams and complex stakeholder environments.
  • Knowledge of major commercial contracts, including engineering, procurement and construction arrangements.
  • Experience supporting or leading planning, consenting or statutory approval processes.
  • An understanding of Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPs), Development Consent Orders (DCOs) and associated regulatory requirements.
  • Strong commercial, financial and risk management capabilities.
  • A track record of delivering projects safely, on time and within budget.
What You’ll Get

A competitive salary between £61,000 - £76,000 per annum – dependent on capability.

As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus of upto 30% based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%. You will also have access to a number of flexible benefits such as a share incentive plan, salary sacrifice car and technology schemes, support via employee assistance lines and matched charity giving to name a few.
