Apple Technical Recruitment are recruiting for a Senior Project Manager in Cambridge to lead a multi-phased Higher Education project worth over £10m. You will manage programmes, procurement, client and stakeholder communications, and ensure site safety and quality standards.

The role requires a proven track record with main contractors and strong leadership across teams. The position offers a permanent attachment with a competitive package including car allowance, pension and bonus.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management or equivalent.
• CSCS Card and SMSTS certification.
• Experience with ASTA PowerProject and Procore is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the project as Senior Project Manager.
• Develop and manage detailed programmes, timelines, and site setup plans.
• Obtain planning permissions and build regulation approvals.
• Partner with the Quantity Surveyor to manage the budget.
• Oversee procurement and negotiate with subcontractors for best value.
• Lead, mentor, and manage the site team and performance.
• Coordinate with clients, design teams and stakeholders with clear reporting.
• Identify risks early and implement robust mitigation plans.
• Champion safety culture and ensure QA and HSE standards.
• Administer contracts and manage handover inspections.

Company & Project: Apple Technical Recruitment are working exclusively with a successful Cambridge based Main Contractor with decades of experience delivering projects.

The business is looking to grow their Cambridge operations team with a talented Senior Project Manager, with their first project a multi-phased Higher Education build valued at over £10m. The project includes various build types including New Build, Extension and Refurbishment with some unique design aspects making it a rewarding project to lead.

The project team is well resourced with x2 experienced Site Managers.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• The successful candidate will take responsibility for overseeing the project as Senior Project Manager.
• Develop and manage detailed project programmes, timelines, and site setup plans, ensuring resources are allocated efficiently across all phases.
• Obtain all necessary planning permissions, statutory permits, and building regulation approvals prior to and during construction.
• Partner with the Quantity Surveyor to oversee the project budget, maintaining tight financial control from start to finish.
• Use industry software (including Procore and ASTA) to streamline project delivery, progress tracking, and team collaboration.
• Oversee procurement for materials and plant, negotiating with and managing subcontractors to secure best value and ensure smooth site operations.
• Lead, mentor, and motivate the site team, supporting their professional development and managing performance.
• Coordinate effectively with clients, design teams, and key stakeholders, keeping everyone aligned through clear, consistent updates and formal reporting.
• Spot potential project risks early, putting robust mitigation plans in place and managing scope changes through the correct contract procedures.
• Champion a strong safety culture on site, conducting regular inspections to ensure all works meet strict health, safety, and quality standards.
• Administer contracts diligently, resolve disputes professionally, and manage final inspections to ensure a seamless client handover.

You will be need to be an excellent communicator, with a track record for successfully delivering projects over £10m on time, to a high quality and promoting excellent standards of Health and Safety.

Desirable Experience:

• Previously held a Project Manager role with a Main Contractor.
• Exceptional client facing and management skills, experience in leading teams.
• Ideally from a Site Management or Engineering background.
• Previous Roles: Contracts Manager OR Project Manager OR Senior Project Manager OR Senior Construction Manager.

Qualifications & Skills:

Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management or comparable qualification.

CSCS Card, SMSTS

ASTA PowerProject software use and Procore software use would be advantageous
