Job summary

Apple Technical Recruitment are working exclusively with a Cambridge-based Main Contractor seeking a Senior Project Manager to lead a multi-phased Higher Education build valued at over £10m. You will drive programmes, procurement, and governance to deliver on time and to a high standard.

The role requires CSCS, SMSTS, and strong client-facing leadership with experience of Procore and ASTA. Excellent communication and a track record of delivering £10m+ projects are essential.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management or comparable qualification.
• CSCS Card and SMSTS certification are advantageous.
• ASTA PowerProject software use and Procore software use would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the project as Senior Project Manager.
• Develop and manage detailed programmes, timelines, and site setup plans.
• Obtain planning permissions, permits, and building regulation approvals.
• Partner with the Quantity Surveyor to oversee budget and cost control.
• Use Procore and ASTA to streamline project delivery, progress tracking, and team collaboration.
• Oversee procurement for materials and plant, negotiating with and managing subcontractors for best value.
• Lead, mentor, and motivate the site team and manage performance.
• Coordinate with clients, design teams and stakeholders and provide formal reporting.
• Spot potential risks early and implement mitigation plans; manage scope changes.
• Champion a strong safety culture with regular inspections.
• Administer contracts and manage final inspections and handover.
• Demonstrate excellent communication with a track record delivering >£10m projects on time and to high standards.
• Previous roles: Contracts Manager or Project Manager or Senior Project Manager or Senior Construction Manager.

Job description

The business is looking to grow their Cambridge operations team with a talented Senior Project Manager, with their first project a multi-phased Higher Education build valued at over 10m. The project includes various build types including New Build, Extension and Refurbishment with some unique design aspects making it a rewarding project to lead.,

• The successful candidate will take responsibility for overseeing the project as Senior Project Manager.
• Develop and manage detailed project programmes, timelines, and site setup plans, ensuring resources are allocated efficiently across all phases.
• Obtain all necessary planning permissions, statutory permits, and building regulation approvals prior to and during construction.
• Partner with the Quantity Surveyor to oversee the project budget, maintaining tight financial control from start to finish.
• Use industry software (including Procore and ASTA) to streamline project delivery, progress tracking, and team collaboration.
• Oversee procurement for materials and plant, negotiating with and managing subcontractors to secure best value and ensure smooth site operations.
• Lead, mentor, and motivate the site team, supporting their professional development and managing performance.
• Coordinate effectively with clients, design teams, and key stakeholders, keeping everyone aligned through clear, consistent updates and formal reporting.
• Spot potential project risks early, putting robust mitigation plans in place and managing scope changes through the correct contract procedures.
• Champion a strong safety culture on site, conducting regular inspections to ensure all works meet strict health, safety, and quality standards.
• Administer contracts diligently, resolve disputes professionally, and manage final inspections to ensure a seamless client handover.
• You will be need to be an excellent communicator, with a track record for successfully delivering projects over 10m on time, to a high quality and promoting excellent standards of Health and Safety.
• Previously held a Project Manager role with a Main Contractor.
• Exceptional client facing and management skills, experience in leading teams.
• Ideally from a Site Management or Engineering background.
• Previous Roles: Contracts Manager OR Project Manager OR Senior Project Manager OR Senior Construction Manager.
