Job summary

First Recruitment Group is seeking a Senior Project Engineer to lead complex engineering projects from concept to completion in Barking, working on a contract or permanent basis.

The role requires managing design, construction, commissioning and handover, ensuring safe, on-time, on-budget delivery while coordinating multi-disciplinary teams and stakeholders.

Experience across regulated industries, strong HSE focus and chartered status or progress toward chartership would be advantageous.

Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in a construction, engineering or related discipline.
  • Demonstrable project management experience within engineering or construction.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong understanding of Health & Safety legislation including CDM Regulations.
  • Experience delivering engineering projects from design through to completion.
  • Proven ability to manage project programmes, targets and deadlines.
  • Experience managing subcontractors and supply chain partners.
  • Knowledge of procurement, stakeholder management and resource planning.
  • Strong quality management and digital delivery capabilities.
  • Ability to lead teams, coach colleagues and build collaborative relationships.
  • Experience within highly regulated industries desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, manage and maintain construction programmes to ensure key milestones are achieved.
  • Lead collaborative planning sessions with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Prepare and manage tender invitations, evaluate submissions and provide award recommendations.
  • Coordinate procurement activities and issue requisitions to supply chain partners.
  • Provide technical coordination between design teams, contractors and suppliers.
  • Manage site teams and ensure issues are resolved or escalated appropriately.
  • Review invoices and identify any discrepancies prior to approval.
  • Promote innovative solutions and improved working practices to enhance safety, efficiency and commercial performance.
  • Maintain project risk registers and provide regular updates on risks, opportunities and mitigation measures.
  • Attend and contribute to project, health & safety, progress and coordination meetings.
  • Support the reporting and investigation of incidents, near misses and unsafe conditions.
  • Prepare project start-up documentation and maintain project records and systems.
  • Work closely with commercial teams to monitor costs, commitments and project forecasts.
  • Lead design coordination and liaison meetings.
  • Ensure all activities comply with relevant health and safety legislation and company procedures.

Our Client has a requirement for a Senior Project Engineer, who will be required to work on a contract or permanent basis in Barking.

Role Purpose
  • Manage the design, construction, commissioning and handover of engineering projects.
  • Ensure project delivery is achieved safely, efficiently, on time and within budget.
  • Coordinate design, commercial, construction and commissioning activities throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Support the Project Manager in achieving programme, quality, health and safety, and client satisfaction objectives.
  • Drive innovation, continuous improvement and effective risk management across projects.

  • Strong contract management, governance and budget control skills.
  • Experience in risk, opportunity and change management.
  • Knowledge of procurement, stakeholder management and resource planning.
  • Strong quality management and digital delivery capabilities.
  • Ability to lead teams, coach colleagues and build collaborative relationships.
  • Chartered status or working towards chartership would be advantageous.
  • Experience within highly regulated industries desirable.
