Job summary

Morson Group in the United Kingdom seeks a Senior Project Engineer – Heavy Systems to support delivery of complex railway systems from design through construction, testing, and handover into operations. This role is based in Birmingham with hybrid working.

You will manage technical assurance, coordinate interfaces, and lead risk and change control, ensuring compliance with standards and CDM/CSM-RA, while guiding engineers and stakeholders toward cost-effective solutions.

Qualifications

• Experience in railway depot engineering, including design, installation, testing and commissioning.
• Understanding of engineering standards, risk management, CDM requirements and CSM-RA regulations.
• Familiarity with commercial and programme considerations of complex projects.
• Experience managing engineering interfaces and competing project priorities.

Responsibilities

We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Engineer – Heavy Systems to support the delivery of complex railway systems projects, ensuring technical compliance, safety and successful integration from design through construction, testing, commissioning and handover into operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate technical assurance activities and evidence submissions for project stage gates.
• Ensure designs, construction and commissioning comply with technical requirements, standards and applicable regulations.
• Support NEC3 Supervisor and Principal Designer Representative duties under CDM Regulations 2015.
• Provide engineering guidance, promote best practice and identify opportunities for innovation and efficiency.
• Coordinate interfaces between railway systems, depot, station and civil engineering contracts.
• Manage technical risks, assumptions, changes and engineering issues to support successful system integration.
• Engage with technical specialists and stakeholders to develop effective, cost-conscious engineering solutions.
• Promote equality, diversity and inclusion across all activities.

About You

You will have relevant experience in railway depot engineering, including design, installation, testing and commissioning. You will understand engineering standards, risk management, CDM requirements and CSM-RA regulations, alongside the commercial and programme considerations of complex projects.

You will demonstrate strong problem-solving, technical coordination, stakeholder management and decision-making skills, with experience managing engineering interfaces and competing project priorities. Chartered Engineer status, or working towards professional registration, is desirable.
