Job summary

Mace, a leading builder and consultancy, seeks a Senior Project Controls Manager to deliver a comprehensive controls service on major energy projects in the UK. You will set up PMO functions, manage cost and schedule reporting, and drive continuous improvement across a broad portfolio.

You will lead multi‑disciplinary teams, mentor staff, and collaborate with clients and contractors to ensure safe, high‑quality delivery while embedding sustainability and carbon awareness into every decision.

Qualifications

• Degree with seven years’ relevant experience in linear infrastructure delivery.
• Membership of RICS, CIOB, APM, ICE or equivalent demonstrable professional or personal development.
• Strong infrastructure project and programme delivery expertise.
• Proven commercial acumen and senior stakeholder management.
• Experienced leader with sustainability and carbon awareness.

Responsibilities

• Deliver a comprehensive project controls service, including reporting and management information, earned value management, cost and schedule variance, estimates at completion and critical path analysis.
• Manage safe, high‑quality and compliant delivery while promoting inclusion and wellbeing.
• Develop and implement PMO and project controls frameworks, supporting best‑in‑class service and stakeholder engagement.
• Manage teams across cost, schedule, risk and reporting, contributing to long‑term strategic improvement.
• Mentor teams, drive knowledge‑sharing, and support resourcing and recruitment for the commission.

The project:

In the energy sector, the UK will need to invest up to £900 billion of capital expenditure to enable a net zero economy by 2050. For our clients in the sector, this means delivering complex projects and programmes delivering low‑carbon technologies and infrastructure. And doing so safely, efficiently, and at pace.

Decarbonisation of energy is currently constrained by the capacity of, and connection to, the electricity network. This role will be at the forefront of this, contributing to the delivery of construction projects increasing capacity on the network, and connecting new generation and storage into the grid. Working closely with client and contractor teams, you will manage and drive project controls activities on major projects and programmes. This may include the set-up of project controls functions, delivery of day-to-day services, and continuous improvement of existing operations to enable greater productivity and performance across the portfolio.

You’ll Be Responsible For

• The Senior Project Controls Manager’s prime responsibility shall be to deliver a comprehensive project controls service, incorporating reporting and management information, earned value management, cost and schedule variance, estimates at completion and critical path analysis during the delivery of major project(s).
