Job summary

Bolt in Scunthorpe is seeking a hands-on Senior Production & Quality Engineer to join our electronics manufacturing team. The role blends production engineering with quality assurance, with about 75% of time on the shop floor and 25% at desk-based activities, reporting to the production and quality groups.

You will collaborate with production, engineering and quality teams to improve processes, resolve quality issues and ensure products meet standards.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience in electronics manufacturing.
• Strong production engineering background with quality exposure.
• Experience on the shop floor rather than desk-based roles.
• Familiar with IPC standards and automated test equipment.
• Experience with ISO 9001, QMS and quality audits.
• Ability to read electrical/electronic schematics, BOMs and drawings.
• Strong problem-solving and root-cause analysis skills.
• Experience with Lean or 5S and continuous improvement.
• Excellent communication with cross-functional teams.
• Willingness to commute to site within ~45 minutes.

Responsibilities

• Develop and improve manufacturing processes, work instructions, tooling and fixtures.
• Support new product introduction and ensure manufacturability.
• Program, operate and troubleshoot automated test and production equipment.
• Carry out root-cause investigations using tools such as 8D, 5-Why and Fishbone analysis.
• Support and maintain the Quality Management System in line with ISO 9001.
• Monitor production quality, yields and key performance indicators.
• Implement corrective and preventative actions to reduce defects and improve efficiency.
• Support testing and inspection activities.
• Provide guidance and technical support to production operators and technicians.
• Identify opportunities for continuous improvement using Lean and 5S principles.
• Support supplier quality activities and investigate component-related issues.

Hours: Monday - Thursday 08:00-17:00, Friday 08:00-13:00

Salary: £40,000 - £45,000 per annum

What you need to apply for Senior Quality & Production Engineer

• Hands‑on experience within an electronics or electrical manufacturing environment


• Strong production engineering background, ideally with some quality experience


• Experience working directly on the shop floor rather than purely in a desk‑based engineering role


• Experience with electronic assembly and hand assembly techniques


• Knowledge of IPC standards and automated test/assembly equipment


• Experience working with ISO 9001, QMS and quality audits


• Ability to read and interpret electrical/electronic schematics, BOMs and engineering drawings


• Strong problem‑solving and root‑cause analysis skills


• Experience with continuous improvement, Lean or 5S methodologies


• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with production, engineering and quality teams


• A practical, hands‑on approach with the confidence to get involved and solve problems on the shop floor


• Ability to commute to the site within approximately 45 minutes
