Manchester City Council is looking for an individual with good all-round procurement experience and a desire to progress their career in a council with a reputation for rising to the biggest challenges. With a large pipeline of diverse projects, this is a fantastic opportunity to exercise your full range of Procurement skills including market research, supplier identification, tendering, contract negotiation, as well as support services to undertake post-contract supplier performance and contractual adherence.

The post holder will provide support and leadership to Procurement Officers across a varied portfolio of projects to deliver a cost-effective and efficient procurement service supporting the delivery of real improvements to Manchester’s residents. Responsibilities include:

  1. Managing, planning, and delivering procurement projects for services across the Council and for selected external organizations.
  2. Providing a comprehensive procurement service to stakeholders, managing stakeholder relationships to ensure successful procurements.
  3. Ensuring procurements provide value for money and promote the council’s strategic priorities, including social value and zero carbon.

The Manchester Strategy sets a long-term vision for Manchester’s future. The role will support and provide expert advice to stakeholders to ensure commercial strategies are in place to help Manchester become a top-tier city by 2025, with goals such as:

  • A competitive, dynamic, and sustainable economy based on science, manufacturing, culture, and digital business.
  • Encouraging new ideas, highly skilled and enterprising people, and good connectivity.
  • Playing a role in limiting climate change impacts.
  • Creating a safe, aspirational, and inclusive environment for residents.

We seek a procurement professional with relevant knowledge and experience in delivering successful procurements aligned with clients’ strategic objectives. The candidate should excel in stakeholder relationship management, overseeing a diverse procurement portfolio, and developing Procurement Officers.
