Senior / Principal Structural Engineer – London

I’m working with a well-established Structural and Civil Engineering consultancy that is looking to recruit an experienced Senior / Principal Structural Engineer to join its growing team.

The consultancy delivers a diverse range of structural engineering projects, providing high-quality, practical and commercially focused solutions across multiple sectors. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer to take a leading role in project delivery, team management and client relationships, while contributing to the continued growth and success of the business.

The role offers the opportunity to take ownership of projects from inception through to completion, working closely with clients and multidisciplinary teams while supporting the development of engineers and technicians. You’ll play a key part in the technical delivery of projects, managing team performance and helping to identify new business opportunities.

Your Responsibilities

• Leading project teams and overseeing the technical delivery of structural engineering projects.
• Preparing technical specifications and reviewing and checking the work of other engineers within the team.
• Managing, mentoring and coaching engineers and technicians at varying stages of their careers, from apprentices through to experienced engineers.
• Liaising with clients and stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery and maintain strong working relationships.
• Supporting business development activities, identifying opportunities with existing clients and helping to secure new work.
• Monitoring project financial performance, managing resources and ensuring projects are delivered efficiently.
• Supporting performance reviews and the professional development of team members.
• Coordinating with multidisciplinary teams to develop practical and commercially viable engineering solutions.
• Ensuring structural designs comply with relevant British Standards and Eurocodes.

About You

• A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (BEng, MEng or equivalent).
• Working towards chartership or already a Chartered Engineer with the IStructE or ICE.
• Significant experience in structural engineering design, project leadership and technical delivery.
• A strong understanding of structural design, coordination and project management.
• Commercial awareness, with experience monitoring project finances and managing resources.
• Confident communication skills, with the ability to manage client relationships and stakeholder expectations.
• Experience mentoring, coaching and developing engineers and technicians.
• An interest in business development and building long-term client relationships.
• A collaborative approach, with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
• The ability to design in accordance with British Standards or Eurocodes, with working knowledge of BS 8110 beneficial.
• Proficiency in industry-standard software, such as Tekla, TEDDS, ETABS, Robot and Revit.
