Job Description

This opportunity allows you to join WSP’s expanding Building Structures team as a Senior or Principal Engineer. Based in our centrally located Wellington Place office, you will own and lead the project management, technical leadership and delivery of schemes from inception through handover to the client.

Reporting to a senior member of the team, you will work on high-profile, multi-disciplinary development projects across transportation, high-rise, commercial, retail, education and healthcare sectors, including recent wins in the defence sector.

Responsibilities
  • Develop innovative and sustainable designs from concept for a wide range of challenging projects, including transportation hubs, tall towers, healthcare, defence and education schemes, in partnership with national and local architects.
  • Take a key technical leadership role on multi-disciplinary design projects from concept through detailed design in coordination with architects, engineers, and specialist consultants.
  • Participate in tender bids and business development opportunities as they arise.
  • Agree fees and manage the commercial position on projects.
  • Exercise independent judgement and resolve technical issues.
  • Own and lead the design process, encouraging your and wider teams to deliver the right solutions to the agreed programme, and support less experienced colleagues through technical review, mentoring and advice.
  • Manage processes to ensure technical issues and risks are resolved in a timely, cost-effective manner.
  • Build strong working relationships with other WSP disciplines, external design consultants, stakeholders and clients.
  • Provide sustainable development solutions from site selection through detailed design and construction.
  • Provide specialist advice and design solutions on sustainable design, net zero carbon, MMC and DfMA.
Qualifications
  • Degree or HNC/HND qualification in a relevant civil or structural discipline.
  • Chartered status or on a clear path to chartership.
  • Solid experience in civil and structural detailed design.
  • Detailed working knowledge of national codes and standards.
  • Proven understanding of the design process and ability to demonstrate working knowledge of briefs, scope documents, design concepts and calculations.
  • Experience with structural design software packages such as Tekla Structural Designer or Tedds, and beneficial experience with CAD software such as Revit.
