Job summary

Pharmaron Hoddesdon seeks a Principal Scientist to lead late-stage process chemistry, overseeing development, scale-up and technology transfer to GMP manufacturing for small‑molecule APIs. You will work with clients and cross-functional teams to ensure robust, compliant processes and successful regulatory submissions.

This senior role requires a PhD in Chemistry (or MSc with relevant experience) and 15+ years in industrial process development, with a track record of delivering complex projects

Qualifications

• PhD in Chemistry or closely related discipline, or MSc/BSc with equivalent industrial experience.
• Extensive industrial experience in chemical process development, 15+ years, with late-stage development and manufacturing.
• Proven track record in developing and scaling small-molecule API processes in pharma/CRO/CDMO sectors.
• Experience in client-facing CRO/CDMO environments with accountability for strategy and delivery.
• Advanced expertise in process design, quality by design, process characterization and scale-up to manufacturing.
• Understanding regulatory requirements for late-phase drug substance development and submissions.
• Experience supporting regulatory submissions and responding to technical/regulatory questions.
• Proven success leading multidisciplinary teams across locations.

Responsibilities

• Provide scientific leadership for late-stage process development programmes for small-molecule APIs.
• Lead complex client projects from engagement through optimization, tech transfer and regulatory support.
• Develop safe, scalable and commercially viable manufacturing processes using QbD.
• Transfer processes into pilot, GMP and commercial manufacturing environments.
• Collaborate with analytical, engineering, manufacturing, quality and regulatory teams to align plans.
• Present findings and recommendations to clients and senior stakeholders.
• Mentor scientists and contribute to capability development within the team.
• Drive innovation and evaluate new technologies to improve robustness and efficiency.
