Job summary

London Stock Exchange Group is seeking a Principal Engineer to be the most senior hands-on technical expert for the Risk Screening platform. You will partner with architecture, service, product, and engineering teams to ensure designs are implemented to the highest technical and operational standards.

A core focus is ownership of non-functional characteristics such as latency, cloud scalability, resilience and handling of large data sets.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience as a Principal Engineer or equivalent senior technical role on large-scale, production systems.
• Deep hands-on expertise in Java (11+), including concurrency and performance optimisation.
• Strong experience building and running systems on AWS with a focus on scalability and reliability.

Responsibilities

• Act as the senior-most technical authority for implementation within the Risk Screening platform.
• Lead the most complex and critical changes, delivering quality, performance and maintainability.
• Define and validate non-functional requirements such as latency, throughput, and reliability.
• Guide cloud scaling and autoscaling strategies, ensuring cost-effective AWS usage.
• Identify operational risks and improve resilience, observability and incident readiness.
• Review critical changes for non-functional requirements and engineering standards.
• Mentor engineers and influence engineering culture through practical excellence.
