A recruitment agency in engineering seeks a Senior/Principal Civil Engineer for a hybrid contract role in Glasgow. Qualifications

  • 5+ years’ experience in civil/structural engineering design.

  • Design, construct, operate and decommission engineering systems in nuclear/high-risk environments.
  • Knowledge of British Standards, Eurocodes and relevant design codes.
  • Experience in nuclear or similar high hazard environments.

  • UK nuclear industry experience, safety-related structures, systems and components.
  • Knowledge of UK/US nuclear industry regulations and nuclear-specific codes and standards.

Responsibilities

  • Author and manage nuclear infrastructure design substantiation documents.
  • Prepare and manage design changes and concessions.
  • Develop and review Periodic Review of Safety reports.
  • Develop EIMT schedules, operating procedures, and associated reports to satisfy design and safety case requirements.
  • Produce and review Periodic Review of Safety reports.
  • Advise internal and external stakeholders on civil/structural engineering matters.
  • Develop scopes for Independent Technical Assessment (ITA) and Independent Peer Review (IPR).
  • Apply both general and specialist engineering methods in nuclear/high-risk environments.
  • Produce technical justifications for civil/structural design modifications in high hazard industries.
  • Review technical reports and safety case submissions from contractors.
  • Check and verify calculations and technical documents prepared by others.

Job description

Overview

Our Client has a requirement for a Senior/Princiap Civil Engineer, who will be required to work on a contractbasis in Glasgow (Hybrid)

The Civil Engineer will work as part of a multi-disciplinary engineering team within the Approval Authority, supporting current operations and future programmes.

The team includes Mechanical, Civil, Structural, Building Services, Electrical, and Piping Engineers, responsible for developing and maintaining engineering design substantiation for nuclear facilities to ensure:

  • Design Intent is achieved
  • Critical Safety Factors are maintained
  • Safety and Operational Requirements are met
  • Compliance with best practice, legislation, and regulation is upheld
Key Tasks & Responsibilities
  • Author, assess, maintain, and manage nuclear infrastructure design substantiation documents.
  • Prepare and manage design changes/concessions.
  • Present design substantiations to internal nuclear safety committees.
  • Develop EIMT schedules, operating procedures, and associated reports to satisfy design and safety case requirements.

Position Requirements
  • Experience: 5+ years’ experience in design assessment of reinforced concrete and steelwork structures under dynamic loads (earthquake, blast, wind, rain, snow).
  • Experience with reinforced concrete structures and jetties.
  • Proven ability to justify civil/structural design modifications in high hazard industries.
  • Capability to design, construct, operate, and decommission engineering systems in nuclear/high-risk environments.
  • Knowledge of British Standards, Eurocodes, and relevant design codes.
  • Experience within a nuclear or similar high hazard environment.
  • Familiarity with safety case development (HAZID, HAZOP).
  • UK nuclear industry experience (energy or defence), particularly safety-related structures, systems, and components.
  • Knowledge of UK/US nuclear industry regulations and nuclear-specific codes and standards.
  • Qualifications & Training: Minimum HNC (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline.
  • Incorporated Engineer status (or equivalent experience).
  • For non-nuclear candidates: completion of a Nuclear Introductory Course within 6 months of joining.
  • Chartered Engineer status.
