Job summary

Millbank Holdings Ltd is seeking a Senior Civil/Structural Engineer to lead safety-critical design across major UK infrastructure projects. You will develop designs, produce justification documentation and oversee safety case inputs, working closely with regulators and clients.

The role requires Chartered or near Chartered status, FE modelling expertise and strong communication skills to mentor colleagues and ensure high-quality, compliant deliverables in a hybrid but office-based setting with

Qualifications

  • Chartered or near Chartered Engineer status with a relevant professional body and support toward Chartership.
  • Knowledge of civil engineering principles, design tools and applicable guidelines.
  • Experience using finite element modelling software and validation of outputs.
  • Ability to simplify complex problems and communicate with a broad range of stakeholders.
  • Understanding of BIM environments and health and safety legislation.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of civil and structural designs across the full project lifecycle.
  • Prepare technical documentation, specifications and design justifications for safety-critical systems.
  • Oversight and preparation of safety case inputs, such as SFRs, SDMSs and DSRs.
  • Prepare interpretive reports, Basis of Design, analysis reports and technical documentation.
  • Mentor junior engineers and ensure delivery quality and on-time progress.
  • Interface with clients, regulators and project stakeholders on technical matters.
  • Ensure designs meet nuclear safety, cybersecurity and quality standards.
  • Support project planning, cost estimating and risk management.

Do you have demonstrable experience leading civil & structural designs within highly regulated or safety-critical environments (e.g., nuclear, defence, energy), including producing or checking design substantiation and safety case documentation?

Are you currently Chartered or actively working towards Chartership, with hands-on experience using finite element analysis tools and validating their outputs?

The Opportunity Due to sustained growth and a strong pipeline of major projects, our client is expanding their Civil, Structural & Architectural (CS&A) capability and are looking for talented Senior Engineers to join us. Our client is a well-established and respected engineering organisation operating at the forefront of the UK’s nuclear and highly regulated sectors, known for delivering technically complex, safety-critical solutions. This is an exciting opportunity to work across a diverse portfolio of projects at various lifecycle stages, where you will play a key role in shaping robust engineering designs, influencing safety cases, and mentoring the next generation of engineers. Your duties and responsibilities will be
  • Lead the development of civil and structural engineering designs and solutions across the full project lifecycle
  • Prepare technical documentation, specifications, and design justifications for safety-critical systems
  • Oversight, verification and preparation of safety case inputs, such as Safety Functional Requirements (SFRs), Structural Design Method Statements (SDMSs) and Design Substantiation Reports (DSR).
  • Oversight, verification and preparation of Interpretive Reports, Basis of Design, Analysis Reports, Calculations, CDM documentation, Material Specifications, Scopes of Work, and Technical Reports
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the practical aspects of implementing engineering designs and understand the use of standards and compliance with regulatory requirements in an engineering environment.
  • Manage and check deliverables from junior engineers to ensure compliance and quality.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to less experienced engineers.
  • Interface with clients, regulators, and project stakeholders on technical matters.
  • Ensure designs meet nuclear safety, cybersecurity, and quality standards.
  • Support project planning, cost estimating, and risk management activities.
  • Produce high-quality technical reports.
  • Build and maintain valuable relationships with clients, partners and peers.
You will have the following qualifications & experience
  • Chartered or near Chartered Engineer status with a relevant professional body (we will support you).
  • Knowledge of civil engineering principals, design tools and relevant guidelines, standards and practices
  • Ability to simplify complex problems.
  • Experience using finite element modelling software and associated post processing software, with experience in validation and verification of modelling tools and their outputs.
  • Good knowledge of health and safety legislation and good practice.
  • Understanding of the use of design tools within a BIM environment.
  • Experience in producing and checking high-quality technical deliverables
  • Motivated team member with the ability to work to deadlines and communicate project progress.
  • Good communication skills and ability to articulate information to a broad range of stakeholders.
The setting for the role

The role is office based with visits to site as required. A safety induction will be provided.
