Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust in Hove is seeking a Senior Practitioner Psychologist to join the Crisis Resolution & Home Treatment Service at Mill View for a 12-month maternity-cover post. The role is Band 8a, part-time 22.5 hours over three days, providing specialist psychological assessments, formulations and interventions within a multidisciplinary team.

The role

This 12-month maternity-cover post provides specialist psychological input within the Crisis Resolution & Home Treatment Service at Mill View Hospital in Hove.

As a key member of the multidisciplinary team, you’ll:

• Undertake highly specialist psychological assessments of people with complex presentations
• Develop psychological formulations to support understanding of individual needs and difficulties
• Work collaboratively with the wider team to translate formulations into effective care plans
• Deliver individual and group psychological interventions
• Work directly with service users and their families
• Support colleagues to apply psychologically informed approaches in everyday practice
• Provide supervision to colleagues
• Represent psychological perspectives within multidisciplinary care
• Contribute to innovation and service improvement
• Work closely with psychology and therapies colleagues across the hospital and wider Division

Who can apply

For Practitioner Psychologist applicants, you’ll need:

• Postgraduate doctoral-level training in applied psychology approved by the HCPC
• Training encompassing models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics, lifespan developmental psychology and at least two distinct psychological therapies
• Highly specialist psychological assessment and treatment experience across a range of settings, including outpatient, community, primary care and inpatient services
• Post-qualification practitioner psychologist experience, including approximately 50 hours of clinical supervision
• Doctoral-level knowledge of research methodology, research design and complex data analysis
• Experience working with diverse client groups across the lifespan and across a wide range of clinical severity
• Evidence of continuing professional development in line with HCPC requirements

Experience and expertise in:

• Working with people experiencing severe and complex mental health difficulties in crisis
• Working within NHS mental health services
• Highly specialist psychological therapies for people with complex or difficult-to-treat presentations
• Working with personality disorder, dual diagnosis or people with additional disabilities
• At least two specialised psychological therapies and neuropsychology
• Teaching, training and supervision
• Formal supervision of other psychologists
• Applying psychology across different cultural contexts and within a multicultural framework
• Representing psychology within multidisciplinary teams
• Relevant national and local mental health guidance, legislation and frameworks

This is a varied role where your psychological expertise can influence both direct patient care and the wider clinical approach of the team.

Alongside individual and group interventions, you’ll help colleagues understand complex presentations through formulation and support the development of psychologically informed care plans and approaches.

We’re particularly interested in someone who can bring creativity, innovation and enthusiasm for service improvement, while maintaining the high level of professionalism required when working with people experiencing significant distress and crisis.

Support, learning and development

You’ll be supported through regular clinical and professional supervision and work alongside an established psychology and therapies team across Mill View Hospital.

Our links with Clinical Psychology training schemes at Salomons and the University of Surrey also create opportunities to contribute to trainee development, placements and research activity.
