Job description

All about the Role

Tight teams, manageable caseloads, and life-changing results motivate us every day.

We believe in better outcomes for children and young people, along with job satisfaction for our dedicated social workers.

Do you believe in the Family Safeguarding approach, with multi-disciplinary teams and positive results, delivering significantly better outcomes for vulnerable children?

As a Senior Practitioner, you will handle complex caseloads of Children in need, Child protection, and court cases.

We want you to feel empowered to make important decisions and to solve challenging situations with innovative solutions.

Would you like easy access to co-located teams and services in a purpose-built office with views and good transport links? Our teams include Housing, Children with Disabilities, Adult Social Care, Legal, and others.

This is a rolling campaign, so apply early. We review applications quickly and contact candidates soon after receiving their application.

All about You
  • You have current registration with Social Work England.
  • You are diligent and detail-oriented.
  • You are experienced but eager to learn and maintain your professional development.
  • You are willing and able to travel between locations.
  • You have in-depth knowledge of legal and policy frameworks in Children's Social Care.
All about our Team

In 2023, Peterborough’s Children’s Services received an OFSTED judgment of inadequate, but the report highlighted that children needing protection and those with complex needs receive appropriate support from the Family Safeguarding teams.

We aim to improve and expand our team, keeping caseloads manageable, which is why we are recruiting.

High-performing teams are rewarded with a market-leading salary and bonuses, including annual lump sums based on your years of service.

Does this sound like a place where you could flourish? We’d love to hear from you.

All about our Benefits

We offer benefits beyond generous leave (starting at 25 days plus bank holidays), sick pay, and pension:

  • Access to discounts via Vivup, including in-store, online, Cycle to Work, and Home & Electronics schemes.
  • Buy up to 10 additional days of annual leave (pro-rata).
  • Access to car lease schemes.
  • Flexible bank holiday arrangements.
  • Tax and NI-efficient voluntary pension contributions.
  • Development opportunities, including apprenticeships.
  • Paid volunteering hours annually.
  • Participation in our diversity and inclusion networks.
  • Opportunities for Employee Recognition Awards.
All about our Commitments

This is a rolling campaign; applications are reviewed daily. We encourage you to apply early as the position may be filled before the closing date. We are committed to diversity and inclusion and welcome applications from all backgrounds, especially from underrepresented groups.

If you require reasonable adjustments during the application or interview process, please contact pccrecruitment@peterborough.gov.uk.

We serve diverse communities and value a workforce that reflects this diversity. Appointment is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure through the Disclosure and Barring Service. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults.
