Job summary

Birmingham Children's Trust is seeking a Senior Practitioner for Children in Care to lead practice quality and supervise social work teams. You will coordinate complex casework, mentor colleagues, and drive adherence to safeguarding standards across cases in Birmingham.

Hybrid role based in Birmingham with a strong focus on partnership working with police, health, schools and other agencies. Social Work England registration and a proven track record are essential.

Qualifications

  • Recognised Social Work qualification.
  • Current Social Work England registration.
  • Significant post-qualifying experience within children’s social care.
  • Experience with Children in Care and managing complex safeguarding issues.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, statutory guidance, and child development.
  • Excellent assessment, analytical, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to coach, mentor, and support colleagues to develop practice.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide lead role in improving the quality of professional social work practice across the case work cycle for children and families.
  • Deliver a needs-led, professional social work service in line with legislation and best practice.
  • Undertake complex casework within the children and family services.
  • Share knowledge of relevant legislation, standards, and procedures with colleagues.
  • Be responsible for allocated cases including a complex caseload.
  • Promote joined-up practice and partner with service users and other agencies.
  • Provide quality assurance and coaching/mentoring to work colleagues.
