Specialist Practitioner – Emergency Duty Team

Location: Halifax, West Yorkshire
Specialism: Emergency Duty
Rate: £35.00 per hour
Contract: Ongoing | Full-Time / Part-Time

We are seeking two experienced Specialist Practitioners to join Calderdale Council’s Emergency Duty Team. This is an outstanding locum opportunity offering £35.00 per hour, flexible shifts, and the chance to make a real difference in emergency social care. If you are a qualified Social Worker with Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) status, this dynamic and rewarding role in the vibrant town of Halifax could be the perfect next step in your career.

Diverse shift patterns – Night shifts of 16 hours and weekend day shifts of 8–10 hours provide variety and work-life balance.

Requirements

Qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England.

Current and valid Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) status.

Experience in emergency or crisis-based social care roles preferred.

Willingness to work out-of-hours on a rotating schedule, including nights and weekends.

Key Responsibilities

Provide urgent assessments and crisis intervention for individuals and families requiring emergency support.

Respond to emergency referrals outside standard working hours, working collaboratively with team colleagues.

Fulfil your duties as an AMHP, including conducting Mental Health Act assessments.

Work in partnership with multi-agency professionals, including police, healthcare, and housing services.

Make sound and timely decisions under pressure, ensuring a person-centred approach to all interventions.

Maintain clear and accurate case records in accordance with Calderdale Council’s policies and professional standards.
