Job summary

SR2 REC LTD in Reading is seeking a Senior Power Electronics Motor Test Engineer to own development, characterisation and verification of high‑performance power electronics and electric drive systems for a UK defence start up.

This hands‑on role involves defining testing scope, designing rigs, and turning test data into engineering decisions, with initial focus on power electronics and potential expansion into motor testing and broader verification.

Qualifications

• Significant test, development or characterisation experience across power electronics, motor drives or electric motors.
• Hands-on testing of efficiency, losses, thermal performance and electrical behaviour.
• Ability to define test methodologies and interpret results to support engineering development.
• SC Eligibility (Dual British & NATO nationalities considered).

Senior Power Electronics Motor Test Engineer

We're looking for a Senior Test Engineer to take ownership of the development, characterisation and verification of high-performance power electronics and electric drive systems for a UK defence start up.

This is a hands-on role where you'll define what needs testing, design and build the rigs to test it, and turn the resulting data into meaningful engineering decisions. The initial focus is power electronics, with scope to expand further into electric motor testing and broader product verification.

Skills & Experience

Essential:

• Significant test, development or characterisation experience across power electronics, motor drives or electric motors
• Hands-on testing of efficiency, losses, thermal performance and electrical behaviour
• Strong experience with oscilloscopes, current probes, power analysers and data acquisition equipment
• Experience designing and building test rigs, fixtures and instrumentation
• Ability to define test methodologies and interpret results to support engineering development
• Test automation and data acquisition using Python, LabVIEW or similar
• Understanding of measurement uncertainty, calibration and traceability
• Experience working safely with high-power electrical systems and rotating equipment
• SC Eligibility (Dual British & NATO nationalities considered)

Desirable:

• Inverter, motor drive or power converter characterisation
• Electric motor and dynamometer testing
• Torque, speed, efficiency and thermal mapping
• Experience establishing or developing an engineering test facility
• Environmental and endurance testing
• High-voltage / high-current test environments
• Aerospace, defence or other high-integrity product testing
• Comfortable operating in a less structured environment
