Job summary

PRS Engineering has engaged with a new client to supply a Test Technician in Gateshead. The role focuses on assembly, troubleshooting and testing of electronic products, with responsibilities spanning from design and calibration of test equipment to safety and continuous improvement.

The position requires knowledge of electronics, experience with test equipment and SMD soldering. A HND in Electrical and Electronic Engineering is required, with potential extension to a permanent role.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of electronic circuits and the ability to design simple circuits.
  • Experience assembling, troubleshooting and testing electronic products.
  • Experience using electrical test equipment (DVMs, oscilloscopes, data loggers).
  • Soldering and rework of SMD components.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble, troubleshoot and test product hardware, software and mechanics.
  • Execute tests and document results in reports.
  • Design, build, calibrate and maintain test equipment.
  • Keep the work area clean, safe and compliant with standards.
  • Support development engineers with analysis and FMEA reviews.

Job description

Contract: Contract/Fixed Term - 6 months (possible extension into permanent position) Salary/Package: £30,500 - £40,000 or Hourly rate to be discussed (outside IR35 for contractors)

PRS Engineering has engaged with a new client and leading manufacturer within best-in-class electric motors, power electronics, energy storage, and thermal equipment for all things that move. Their mission is to accelerate the world's transition to sustainable energy by providing innovative and efficient solutions for a cleaner future. Operating in North America, Canada, the UK, and India and serves customers in global markets and industries including off highway, commercial vehicles, rail, marine, light vehicles and premium automotive.

In this role the Test Technician will be responsible for the following:

  • Product (software, hardware and mechanics) assembly, troubleshooting and testing.
  • Test execution and report writing.
  • Design, construction, maintenance and calibration of test equipment.
  • Keeping working environment clean, tidy and safe.
  • Applying continuous improvement of working practices, processes and working environment.
  • Identifying and managing continuous improvement of equipment and test methods.
  • Assisting development engineers with analysis of products, including FMEAs, design reviews, etc.
  • Work to company quality and national / international standards.
  • Ensuring that all work is carried out safely.
Experience and Skills

We're looking for candidates with the following experience and skills:

  • A good knowledge of electronic circuits, including experience designing simple circuits.
  • Assembly, troubleshooting and testing of electronic products.
  • Use of electronic test equipment. (Including DVMs, Oscilloscopes, Data Loggers)
  • Soldering and rework techniques of SMD components.
  • Computer literate. (Microsoft Excel and Word)
It would also be great (but not essential) if in addition to the above you also had:
  • Dyno preparation and maintenance
  • Experience of CAD design for general fixtures & fittings
  • Experience with high voltage (> 60V) and/or high current (> 100A) products.
  • EMC testing, including exposure to standards such as REG10, ISO16750, CISPR 25.
  • Thermal and environmental testing.
  • Automotive product development and testing.
  • Mechanical skills, assembly and creation of one off parts, use of machine shop tools.
  • Experience with high volume products.
  • Experience in HALT / HAAS testing
Qualifications

A HND or equivalent in the following discipline is required: Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

Relevant experience could also be considered.

Initially this is a fixed term contact position with views to lead to permanent after 6 months.
