A unique opportunity to improve physical health outcomes within mental health services.
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Podiatrist to join our Physical Health and Wellbeing Team on a bank basis, supporting services predominantly within the North Locality, based around Morpeth and the surrounding areas.
This is a rare opportunity to use your podiatry expertise within a specialist mental health, learning disability and neurodevelopmental NHS Trust. People who access our services often experience significant physical health inequalities and may face barriers to accessing mainstream healthcare. As part of our commitment to improving physical health outcomes, we are looking for a podiatrist who is passionate about delivering high-quality, person-centred care and helping to reduce these inequalities.
As an autonomous practitioner, you will provide specialist podiatric assessment, diagnosis, treatment and management for patients with a wide range of foot health needs. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams across inpatient and community settings, supporting the delivery of holistic care that recognises the relationship between physical and mental health.
Key responsibilities include:
Providing specialist podiatry assessment, treatment and management.
Undertaking biomechanical and gait assessments where appropriate.
Managing and prioritising a diverse caseload independently.
Supporting the prevention and management of foot complications associated with long-term conditions.
Working collaboratively with mental health, learning disability and physical health colleagues.
Contributing to health promotion, education and preventative care initiatives.
Maintaining accurate clinical records and participating in clinical governance activities.
Supporting service development and continuous quality improvement
We aim to attract and retain a diverse, talented and committed workforce, who are caring and compassionate, and therefore able to meet the demands of the modern NHS now and in the future. In return we can offer a dynamic working environment in which to build a career.
This is not a traditional podiatry service.
You will work with people whose physical health needs may otherwise go unmet, helping to improve access to healthcare and supporting better physical health outcomes for individuals with mental illness, learning disabilities and neurodevelopmental conditions.
This role offers the opportunity to:
Make a meaningful difference to a population experiencing significant health inequalities.
Work within an innovative and developing physical health service.
Build expertise in a highly specialised area of practice.
Work closely with a wide range of multidisciplinary professionals.
Influence and shape podiatry provision within a mental health setting.
Enjoy the flexibility of bank working whilst undertaking rewarding clinical work.
Experience working within mental health services is welcome but not essential. We encourage applications from podiatrists working in community, acute, diabetes, musculoskeletal or independent practice settings who are interested in developing their skills within a mental health and learning disability environment.
This bank opportunity offers the chance to be part of a Trust-wide commitment to improving physical health and wellbeing. You will join a supportive team that recognises the importance of physical health in recovery and quality of life, while enjoying the flexibility that bank working provides.
For an informal discussion about the role, please contact Kate McBride, Physical Health Lead
