Job summary

Ricoh in London is recruiting a Senior Platform Reliability Engineer to own the reliability and operational integrity of hybrid and cloud platforms. You will focus on stabilising live environments, implement automation, and improve incident response with strong IaC and observability practices.

The role requires deep Azure expertise, experience with Terraform/ARM, and a proactive, security-conscious mindset in a Cloud-First strategy. Hybrid work and UK travel may be involved.

Qualifications

  • Strong business awareness alongside technical capability, with a clear understanding of how infrastructure services support business operations and cloud-first strategy.
  • Extensive Azure experience including IaaS, PaaS, networking, identity and storage, plus on-prem data centre operations.
  • Hands-on with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, ARM/Bicep) and configuration management.
  • Experience with monitoring/observability tools, alert design, and dashboards.
  • Familiarity with ITSM integrations (ServiceNow) and ITIL processes; budgeting and cost optimisation awareness.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver standards for availability, latency, performance, capacity, and scalability.
  • Lead root-cause analysis and post-mortems for major incidents.
  • Champion blameless post-mortems and track actions.
  • Drive infrastructure-as-code and automation across Azure and data-centre environments.
  • Evolve image pipelines for repeatable server images and baseline security.
  • Embed observability with metrics, logs, traces, and alerting tooling.
  • Partner with SRE and helpdesk to deliver reliable services.
  • Oversee automated patching, vulnerability remediation, and configuration compliance.
  • Introduce KPIs and dashboards for reliability and incident trends.
  • Occasional travel to data centres and offices to ensure project alignment.

We are currently recruiting for a Senior Platform Reliability Engineer based in London. This role is a senior, hands on engineering role responsible for the reliability, resilience, and operational integrity of our hybrid and cloud platforms.


The role focuses on operating, stabilising, and continuously improving live platforms, ensuring services meet defined availability, performance, security, and compliance standards. It combines deep operational expertise with strong automation, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and observability capability to reduce toil, improve recovery, and enable predictable service outcomes.


What you will be doing


  • Deliver standards for availability, latency, performance, capacity, and scalability.

  • Take part in root-cause analysis and problem management for major incidents.

  • Champion blameless post-mortem culture and ensure actions are tracked and closed.

  • Drive infrastructure-as-code and automation across Azure and co-lo environments.

  • Evolve image bakery pipeline for secure, repeatable server images.

  • Embed observability using metrics, logs, traces, and alerting tools.

  • Partner with SRE and helpdesk teams to deliver service.

  • Oversee automated patching, vulnerability remediation, and configuration compliance.

  • Introduce KPIs and dashboards for reliability, incident trends, MTTR, change failure rate, and capacity.

  • Occasional travel to datacentres and offices to ensure projects and service meets business requirements.

You will ideally have


  • Strong business awareness alongside technical capability, with a clear understanding of how infrastructure services support business operations, customer experience, and strategic objectives within a Cloud-First strategy. The role requires making decisions that prioritise cloud and managed services, while balancing technical quality, cost efficiency, risk, security, and service reliability.

  • Previous experience in a similar role plus, strong practical knowledge of infrastructure, cloud, and operations, beyond task execution

  • Strong background in Azure (IaaS, PaaS, networking, identity, storage) and on-prem data centre operations.

  • Hands-on skills with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, ARM/Bicep), configuration management (Ansible, PowerShell DSC), CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions).

  • Experience with monitoring/observability tools, alert design, and dashboarding.

  • Commercial awareness, including experience working with vendors and partners, understanding cloud consumption models, licensing and support contracts, and contributing to cost optimisation, business cases, and risk assessments across cloud and hybrid environments.

  • Service-focused mindset is required, with knowledge of IT service management, clear communication and documentation, effective incident and problem support, and continuous improvement of platforms and services in line with Cloud-First and automation-led objectives.

  • Knowledge of networking, security, and OS fundamentals (Windows/Linux).

  • Experience operating in ISO 27001 or similar regulated environments.

  • Experience integrating with ITSM platforms (e.g., ServiceNow) and aligning with ITIL processes.

  • Understanding of business and application impact of infrastructure decisions

  • Working knowledge of security, architecture, and vendor/commercial considerations to support informed decision-making.
