Senior Platform Engineer, Foundations

Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a platform engineer to design, operate, and improve highly available cloud services in AWS, including Kubernetes clusters, Kafka, and CI/CD pipelines. You will own complex features from conception to production and help reduce cognitive load through self-service tooling.

You will collaborate with Information Security and cost teams to tighten controls, improve cloud efficiency, and guide the platform roadmap.

Qualifications

• Experience designing, operating production infra in AWS (IAM, EC2, EKS, RDS, MSK, S3, VPC).
• Experience scaling multi-tenant Kubernetes clusters and production Kafka or streaming platforms.
• Experience with Kubernetes upgrades, reliability, security, and incident response.
• Infra as code, pipeline-as-code, containerization, and cloud-native systems.
• Terraform, Helm, Ansible, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Docker, or Kubernetes.
• Observability and tuning of PostgreSQL in production.
• Experience with Datadog or Prometheus.
• Strong software-engineering or scripting skills (Python, Go, etc.).
• Track record of solving ambiguous cross-functional problems and communicating tradeoffs.
• Experience elevating developer productivity or developer experience.
• Interest in cryptocurrencies/blockchain; willingness to learn.
• Authorized to work in United Kingdom without restrictions.

Responsibilities

• Design, operate, and continuously improve highly available platform services including Kubernetes clusters, Kafka, CI/CD systems.

Requirements

• Deep experience designing, operating, and troubleshooting production infrastructure in AWS, including IAM, EC2, EKS, RDS, MSK, S3, Lambda, VPC, and networking
• Experience administering and scaling multi-tenant Kubernetes clusters and production Kafka or other streaming platforms
• Experience with Kubernetes upgrades, workload isolation, reliability, security, and incident response
• Experience building and maintaining infrastructure as code, pipeline-as-code, containerization, and cloud-native systems
• Experience with Terraform, Helm, Ansible, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Docker, or Kubernetes
• Experience designing production observability and tuning relational databases, ideally PostgreSQL
• Experience with Datadog or Prometheus
• Strong software-engineering or scripting skills in Python, Go, Java, Scala, or shell
• Track record of owning ambiguous cross-functional problems and clearly communicating tradeoffs
• Experience elevating developer productivity or developer experience
• Experience building self-service tooling or reusable platform abstractions
• Interest in cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology, or curiosity and willingness to learn
• Experience operating in a security standards-compliant environment such as ISO 27001, NIST 800-171, or SOC 2
• Legally authorized to work for any employer in the United Kingdom without restrictions
