Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a seasoned professional to lead the design, build and operation of secure AWS cloud infrastructure and DevOps capabilities. You will own pipelines and IaC, drive engineering standards, and mentor teams while embedding security-by-design across the delivery lifecycle.

Responsibilities include designing scalable CI/CD with GitLab/GitHub, deploying Kubernetes workloads with ECS/EKS, and ensuring observability, monitoring and reliable deployments in regulated environments.

Qualifications

• Significant hands-on experience designing, building and operating AWS solutions.
• Strong knowledge of AWS compute, networking, identity, security and container services.
• Experience designing and managing CI/CD pipelines using GitLab or GitHub.
• Demonstrable expertise with infrastructure-as-code at scale using Terraform.
• Strong understanding of Kubernetes architecture and containerised workloads.

Job description

• Lead the design, build and evolution of secure AWS cloud infrastructure and DevOps capabilities
• Design and maintain scalable, secure and automated CI/CD pipelines using GitLab or GitHub
• Own infrastructure-as-code approaches using Terraform
• Define and promote engineering standards, patterns and best practices across delivery teams
• Embed automation across build, test, deployment and operational workflows
• Apply DevSecOps and security-by-design principles throughout the delivery lifecycle
• Design, deploy and operate containerised workloads using Kubernetes and AWS services such as ECS and EKS
• Work with architects and security specialists on cloud architecture, networking, identity, security and integration requirements
• Implement monitoring, observability, logging and alerting for resilient services
• Provide technical leadership during complex troubleshooting and resolution of infrastructure and deployment issues
• Engage with clients and technical stakeholders to understand requirements, explain technical decisions and provide recommendations
• Mentor and support engineers, encouraging knowledge sharing and continuous improvement
• Identify opportunities to improve engineering practices, automation, reliability and delivery efficiency

Requirements

• Candidates must be eligible to obtain and maintain SC clearance; current SC clearance is highly desirable
• Significant hands-on experience designing, building and operating solutions within Amazon Web Services (AWS)
• Strong knowledge of AWS compute, networking, identity, security and container services
• Strong experience designing and managing CI/CD pipelines using GitLab or GitHub
• Demonstrable expertise with Terraform and infrastructure-as-code at scale
• Strong understanding of Kubernetes architecture and operating containerised workloads in cloud environments
• Good understanding of DevSecOps, OWASP principles and security-by-design
• Experience designing and implementing monitoring, logging and observability solutions
• Strong scripting skills using Python, Bash, PowerShell or similar
• Experience making technical design decisions and providing engineering leadership within multidisciplinary teams
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills across complex cloud environments
• Confidence working directly with clients and communicating technical concepts, decisions and recommendations
• Experience working within Agile delivery environments
• Experience supporting and mentoring other engineers
• AWS Professional-level certification, such as AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional or Solutions Architect – Professional, is desirable
• Strong experience delivering solutions for public sector, defence or other regulated clients is desirable
• Experience working within secure environments and understanding associated security and assurance requirements is desirable
• Experience contributing to technical designs, architecture decisions and engineering standards is desirable
