Job summary

BT Group is seeking a Senior Planning & Performance Manager in London to lead the Networks investment planning and performance functions. You will coordinate investment priorities, delivery commitments, benefits and risks into a single integrated view across Networks.

You will partner with Finance, Strategy and other units to shape decisions at senior levels and guide billions in network investment to maximise customer and business value.

Qualifications

• Strategic, investment or portfolio planning within a large, complex organisation.
• Leading annual or multi-year planning cycles, translating strategy into prioritised, deliverable plans.
• Commercial and financial management, including CapEx planning and investment trade-offs.
• Portfolio performance leadership with governance, change control and risk management across programmes.

This is a rare opportunity to sit at the centre of one of BT's most significant investment portfolios, helping to guide billions of pounds of network investment decisions that drive customer experience, business growth and the future of the UK's communications infrastructure. Drawing on strategic planning, commercial insight and portfolio leadership, you will help Networks make informed decisions on where to invest, where to prioritise and how to maximise value from every pound spent.

As Senior Planning & Performance Manager, you'll lead the planning and performance capability across Networks, bringing together investment priorities, delivery commitments, benefits, risks and customer outcomes into a single, integrated view. Working closely with senior stakeholders across Networks, Finance, Strategy, Digital and customer-facing units, you'll influence some of the organisation's most important investment decisions.This is a highly visible Career Level C role for someone who enjoys turning complexity into clarity, influencing at senior levels and helping leaders make confident, evidence-based decisions in a fast-moving and constantly evolving environment.

What you’ll be doing

• Lead the end-to-end Networks Annual Investment Review, shaping priorities, planning activity and investment recommendations that support long-term strategic objectives.
• Own the development and maintenance of the Networks Operating Plan, creating a clear and credible view of investment, delivery commitments, benefits, risks and outcomes.
• Manage planning and performance across a large-scale investment portfolio, ensuring delivery remains aligned to agreed priorities, value drivers and business objectives.
• Support senior leaders in making informed trade-off decisions by translating complex operational, technical and financial information into clear recommendations.
• Monitor portfolio performance, identifying risks, dependencies, delivery challenges and opportunities for intervention before issues impact outcomes.
• Build strong relationships across Networks and the wider BT Group, aligning stakeholders behind a single view of investment demand, priorities and commitments.
• Lead investment and performance reviews with senior stakeholders, ensuring discussions remain focused on decisions, actions and measurable outcomes.
• Coach and develop a small team while continuously improving planning, reporting and portfolio management practices across the function.

Essential Skills / Experience

• Strategic, investment or portfolio planning within a large, complex organisation, with responsibility for shaping priorities and influencing major business decisions.
• Leading annual or multi-year planning cycles, translating strategy into prioritised, deliverable plans that balance investment, risk, capacity and business outcomes.
• Commercial and financial management, including CapEx planning, forecasting, business cases, benefits realisation and investment trade-off decisions.
• Portfolio performance leadership, including governance, change control, dependency management, risk management and performance tracking across complex programmes or portfolios.

Desirable Skills / Experience

• Experience within telecommunications, technology, infrastructure or another capital-intensive environment.
• The ability to analyse complex data and build compelling, evidence-based investment recommendations for senior leaders.
• Experience operating across multiple specialist domains, bringing together diverse viewpoints into a single strategic direction.
• Strong stakeholder leadership and influencing skills, with the confidence to challenge constructively and build alignment across organisational boundaries.
• Experience linking technology or infrastructure investment to customer, operational and commercial outcomes.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to create concise executive-level narratives that support decision making.
• Knowledge of network investment planning, enterprise portfolio management, operating planning or large-scale dependency management.
• Experience leading, coaching or developing individuals and creating high-performing teams.
• Professional qualifications in portfolio management, programme management, project management, finance, business management or a related discipline.
