Job summary

Energy Jobline CVL in Bradford is seeking an experienced Senior Planning Officer to support the Local Plan process, ensuring up-to-date policy delivery and robust data systems.

The role focuses on leading planning policy areas, preparing Local Plan and related documents, and briefing senior stakeholders. You will develop monitoring and GIS data, coordinate with partners, and respond to changes in legislation.

Qualifications

• Degree level in planning or related field and eligible for RTPI membership.
• At least 3 years' post-qualification experience in planning, focusing on Local Plans and policy.
• Experience with complex planning policy or programme work, including plan preparation and implementation.
• Experience briefing and presenting proposals to senior stakeholders or elected members.
• Experience preparing evidence or acting as advocate at Local Plan examinations/hearings.
• Strong knowledge of planning legislation, policy and procedures.
• Excellent written, verbal, analytical and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare Local Plan documents, Neighbourhood Plans and Supplementary Planning Documents.
• Lead on planning policy areas such as housing, employment, environment, retail, transport or infrastructure.
• Prepare evidence for planning examinations, inquiries and hearings, including acting as an expert witness.
• Provide planning policy advice and appraise development proposals against policy guidance.
• Develop and maintain performance monitoring, data collection and GIS systems.
• Prepare reports and presentations for senior management and committees.
• Work with internal teams, external partners and other organisations to support strategic planning objectives.
• Monitor changes in planning legislation, policy and guidance.
